It’s A Dream For All Of Us To Win The World Test Championship: Cheteshwar Pujara

Indian Test No.3 Cheteshwar Pujara has said that winning the inaugural ICC World Test Championship is a dream for the No.1 ranked Test team.
Virat Kohli’s Team India was comfortably the best team during the two-year ICC World Test Championship cycle and the upcoming final against New Zealand will be another opportunity for the No.1 ranked team to further establish their dominance in the longest format.
India, who has enjoyed the numero-uno spot in Test rankings for a better part of the last four years, dropped just one series out of six that they contested during the WTC cycle.
They sealed their place in the final with a historic triumph in Australia (2-1) which was followed by an equally impressive win at home against England (3-1).
Ironically, the only team that beat them during the WTC cycle is New Zealand and the Virat Kohli-led unit will be looking to avenge the 0-2 whitewash that they suffered at the hands of the Kiwis when they lock horns against Kane Williamson’s men in the summit clash on June 18.
“It’s a dream for all of us because WTC is indeed the World Cup of Test format and we all would like to win this trophy,” Cheteshwar Pujara told cricket.com.
Cheteshwar Pujara opens up on Team India’s back-to-back series triumphs in Australia
During the chat, Chetshwar Pujara also opened up about Team India’s back-to-back series victories in Australia in the past three years.
While Pujara rated India’s maiden Test series win in Australia in 2018 as ‘special’, he reckoned that the historic triumph during the last winter was equally special given the fact that Team India had to battle so many adversities.
Cheteshwar Pujara was one of the major reasons why Team India won back-to-back series in Australia. While the Indian No.3 scores close to 600 runs during the 2018 rubber, he had an equally fruitful tour last winter where he may not have scored the same number of runs that he did two winters ago but he ensured that he stayed in the middle long enough to blunt the Aussie attack.
The Indian No.3, who took multiple blows for his team during the historic final day of the Brisbane Test, expressed satisfaction on the fact that he was able to successfully implement his plans during the course of the last two tours.
“Any tour of Australia is always a big challenge and very important for us. In that sense, the 2018 win was the most special. And then, of course, our last series win was also very special because the team was relatively weak as some of the senior players were not there and some of them were injured and not available for all the matches. As a team, it was a huge achievement and personally, it was very satisfying,” he said.
“Fortunately for me, whatever I had planned for those tours did click. Australia is one of the best teams. Their bowling attack is one of the best in world cricket and doing well against them gives you some pride but you can’t be sitting on past laurels. You have to start afresh for a new challenge,” Cheteshwar Pujara signed off.
