Former India’s chairman of selectors MSK Prasad opened up on India’s enormous talent pool that has enabled them to field two teams. MSK Prasad, who served as the chairman of India’s selectors until late 2019, produced mixed results for India, the high of which included the team’s maiden Test series win in Australia. But he stated that it’s the hard work of five years that has landed them to the possibility of fielding two teams.
For the first time in 23 years, India will field two teams simultaneously in international cricket. With players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Ravindra Jadeja, and 15 other men in England preparing for the Test series, it left India’s fringe players a massive chance to prove themselves in Sri Lanka.
Hence, a separate squad was named for the three-match ODI and T20I series in Sri Lanka, set to begin on the 19th of July. Shikhar Dhawan will captain the side in Sri Lanka that has as many as six uncapped players. The players, who have impressed in the IPL for their franchises have earned the chance to translate their form into international cricket. Furthermore, Rahul Dravid has been allowed to work with the senior team in Ravi Shastri’s absence.
There have been numerous India A tours during my tenure as a selector: MSK Prasad
MSK Prasad revealed there were plenty of A tours during his tenure as the national selector. The former Indian cricketer underlined that the senior management, selectors, and the coaching staff took the time to chalk out fringe players and get them ready for international cricket. They have repeated the process over five years, enabling them to produce handsome results.
“There have been numerous India A tours during my tenure as a selector. The senior team management, along with the national selectors and India A head staff would sit down and identify fringe players and hand them opportunities for the smooth transition to take place. It’s a process of over 5 years that’s bearing dividends,” Prasad told Indian Express.
