The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has begun the hunt for the next big things. As a part of the ongoing projects, former Team India pacer Zaheer Khan was assigned as the bowling trainer to look after the emerging pacers. With the new duties, Zaheer got to know closely about the
During an exclusive interaction with RevSportz, the former cricketer was asked about the future of India’s pace bowling. Zaheer Khan said that the board is following a proper plan, which will be translated into a result in the future. He feels that the result will be very fruitful for Indian cricket.
BCCI conducted a special talent hunt camp to explore new pacers
Earlier this month, it was reported that BCCI invited a batch of selected pacers from states for a special camp at Bengaluru's Centre of Excellence (CoE). Zaheer Khan was appointed to guide the young pacers under the guidance of the Head of Cricket at CoE, VVS Laxman.
“Look, I mean, there are two aspects of this. One, I was requested to spend some time with the targeted bowlers that BCCI currently has on the roster. So made my time useful that way, you know, just kind of helping them, guiding them, understanding how they are looking at it, where I can come into play with sharing my experiences,” the former seamer explained his role in the special camp in Bengaluru.
Zaheer Khan is hopeful to see quality young pacers in the future
The 47-year-old assured that the nation has enough talent to be nurtured, guided, and advised. With modern infrastructure, the project will welcome more opportunities in the upcoming days.
‘When you are looking at the pan-India prospect of bowlers coming along, I think, you know, we are sitting very pretty. I think there is enough talent in our country to be nurtured, to be guided, to be advised, and that way, you have seen there is a lot of infrastructure also in place to a larger extent. It is just about creating more opportunities,” a hopeful Zaheer Khan asserted.
Will Team India be able to find out the next Jasprit Bumrah?
Jasprit Bumrah, the pace spearhead of the Indian pacer bowling line-up’s workload management, is often monitored by the board. Mohammad Shami has also been out of the team for a long time now. To strengthen the bowling department, BCCI needs to find new talent who can represent the Men in Blue in the future.

“I think more and more people coming in the administrative side of things who understand workload, who possibly have played the game, you know, just going to enhance and maybe fast track this process of creating these opportunities."
"Creating the platforms which is going to give opportunities to lot of the guys who then you can take note of and then set the processes which is going to really enhance and smoothen their journey of becoming top, top cricketers."
"I think we are sitting pretty with that. You know, when you are looking at the talent pool, it is just about time and the right processes to follow, and you will see some good results,” Zaheer Khan further expressed.
