Former Sri Lanka cricketer Russel Arnold has predicted that Virat Kohli will become the World's No. 1 ranked batter in Tests and ODIs in the coming future. Kohli is in India's squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka.
He is currently playing the first ODI of the series, which is his first international game since the historic T20 World Cup 2024 final played more than a month ago. He was earlier supposed to be rested for the series but since India will play a limited no. of ODIs before next year's Champions Trophy, new head coach Gautam Gambhir asked for a full-strength ODI team.

Russel Arnold makes a huge prediction for Virat Kohli
Before the start of the first ODI between Sri Lanka and India, Russel Arnold predicted that it is just a matter of time before Kohli becomes the No. 1 ranked batter in Tests and ODIs. The renowned commentator also lauded Kohli for his dedication and commitment to the game.
“Virat Kohli’s passion, dedication and commitment is just second to none. He is just phenomenal. Yes, I think it’s just a matter of time that Virat Kohli will become the No.1 ranked Batter in the World in ODIs & Tests,” Russel Arnold was quoted as saying by Sony Sports Network.

Virat Kohli is likely to bat at his usual No. 3 batting spot against Sri Lanka. His last ODI match was the ODI World Cup 2023 final match against Australia, where India suffered a heartbreaking loss. Since then, he has only played either Tests or T20Is.

Along with Kohli, Rohit Sharma is also back in the team after the T20 World Cup 2024 final against South Africa in Barbados. Rohit Sharma is also the captain of the ODI side. His last ODI was also the World Cup 2023 final against Australia.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from the T20I format after India's title win in the T20 World Cup 2024. Both the players want to concentrate on the Test and ODI formats which will be crucial in India's plans for next year's Champions Trophy and the WTC final.
