Dinesh Karthik has finally brought down the curtains on his professional career that spanned over two decades. The right-handed batsman retired from the game after Royal Challengers Bengaluru's campaign ended in the recently concluded IPL 2024.
The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman had already lost his place in the Indian team and was just playing in the IPL. Other than playing in the IPL, he was also plying his trade as a commentator. With his career as a player now done and dusted, Dinesh Karthik has revealed the compliment that he has received in his career that will stay with him forever.
While the Tamil Nadu man never really managed to get a long run in the Indian team, he has been praised by one and all for his perseverance and hard work. His dedication to the game over the years has been truly exemplary. Dinesh Karthik also did not take long to become a fan favorite for his commentary.
And while he has received numerous compliments in his long career, the two compliments that will stay with him forever were received from none other than Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. In a recent interview with Cricbuzz, Karthik stated that while he has been receiving adulation from all around, the compliments that he has received from Kohli and Dhoni are special.
"There's been a lot of outpouring of love... One for my cricket - Virat Kohli saying that he'd love me being part of the [RCB] team which was a great compliment. Dhoni said: 'I've really enjoyed your commentary, DK. Very, very good.' That's about as big a compliment as you can get from Dhoni I guess," said Dinesh Karthik.
Dinesh Karthik's IPL career in numbers:
Dinesh Karthik was playing in the IPL from the very inaugural edition in 2008. Over the years, he represented six franchises in the tournament and has retired from IPL as the second most capped player.
He has played 257 games in IPL and only the legendary MS Dhoni is ahead of him. Karthik scored 4842 runs with the help of 22 half-centuries. He is also the second most prolific wicketkeeper in the history of the IPL with 174 dismissals and only Dhoni (190) is ahead of him.
