Jack Edwards appointed PM XI's captain to face India in the pink-ball warm-up
The Prime Minister's XI features some of the emerging talents from Australian domestic cricket and has a good mix of youth and experience. Sam Konstas, who was recently in contention for the opening spot for the Perth Test, is also included.
Matthew Renshaw has also got a place in the team. Renshaw has been on the fringes of the team's selection for quite some years and was among the players who were in contention for the opening spot for Australia's Playing XI recently.
Konstas and Renshaw will be looking to step up against a solid bowling attack against India to prove their case for the rest of the series. Both are talented enough and will be looking to push their case.
The squad also features young Under-19 talents like Jack Edwards, Charlie Anderson, Mahli Beardman, and Lloyd Pope. Charlie Anderson and Mahli Beardman played key roles in Australia winning the Under-19 World Cup earlier this year.
Scott Boland to lead the bowling attack
New South Wales' allrounder Jack Edwards will lead this team while Scott Boland will lead the bowling attack. Scott Boland has an excellent Test record but does not get a chance to be a part of Australia's Playing XI due to their formidable bowling line-up.
The warm-up match is important for India as it will serve as a preparation for the second Test match in Adelaide Oval, which is also a pink-ball Test. The Adelaide Test is also the only day-night Test of the series.
For India, regular captain Rohit Sharma is likely to be back in the Playing XI after missing the first Test in Perth to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. Rohit's presence will boost India as he brings the much-needed experience with him.
Stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah is currently leading Team India in Perth in Rohit's absence. India did not play any warm-up matches before the series and concentrated more on match simulation because of the less time available.
This makes the upcoming warm-up game more important for them, especially since it's a pink-ball Test. The last time India played a pink-ball Test on Australian soil, they were dismissed for a record-low score of 36 in the second innings and went on to lose the Test as well.
