Former New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram has been appointed as the new bowling coach for the men's cricket team.
Jacob Oram will replace Shane Jurgensen, who left the role in November 2023, and his tenure will begin just before New Zealand's three-match Test series against India.
Oram had played for New Zealand for 11 years in his career. He brings experience to the national cricket team, having coached the New Zealand A team and the women's team.
Oram joined the New Zealand women's team as a bowling coach in 2018 and worked until the ICC World Cup in 2021.
The 46-year-old previously served as the assistant coach during New Zealand's Test tour of Bangladesh in December 2023.
He was part of the national cricket team during the series loss to Australia in February 2024 and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the team exited in the group stages.
I'm Excited To Continue That Work - Jacob Oram
Jacob Oram is excited about rejoining the Black Caps, describing it as a real honor. Oram said that he is eager to share his knowledge and experience to help the emerging talent in the Black Caps' bowling lineup for international challenges.
"I'm really excited to have the opportunity to be involved with the Black Caps again. To be back involved with a team that means so much to me and has been a big part of my life is a real honor," Oram said.
"The recent opportunities I've had have been a great insight into where this team is going and I'm excited to continue that work in the coming seasons.
There's a fresh new wave of talent coming through in the Black Caps bowling ranks and I hope that I can share my knowledge and experience to help best prepare them for the challenges of international cricket," he added.
Jacob Oram played 33 Tests, 160 ODIs, and 36 T20I matches for New Zealand. The former left-handed batter scored 4,688 runs and took 252 wickets across all formats in international cricket.
He was part of the New Zealand cricket team in three ODI World Cups and four T20 World Cups.
Jacob Oram Brings A Deep Understanding - Gary Stead
Head coach Gary Stead praised Jacob Oram for his extensive experience as both a player and a coach. Stead highlighted that Oram brings a deep understanding of international and franchise cricket.
"Jake's a great operator. His career as a player and his experiences as a coach speak for themselves," said Stead.
"He brings a deep understanding of the international game, but also experience in franchise cricket which will be worthwhile in understanding the modern player and the changing landscape of the modern game. It's a really exciting opportunity for him and we're looking forward to having him join the group full-time."
Oram has coaching experience in franchise tournaments. He was the head coach of Central Hinds in the Super Smash, where he led the team to their first final since 2016.
Oram served as the assistant coach for the Northern Warriors in the T10 league and as the bowling coach for MI Cape Town in the SA20.
