Bangladesh batter Jaker Ali replaced Mominul Haque as a concussion substitute during the first Test against the West Indies in Mirpur. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stated that Mominul suffered a head injury while fielding at short leg during the visitors' first innings and showed signs of concussion.
The hosts took a 27-run first-innings lead after bowling the West Indies out for 245 on day three (Friday, October 30). Nayeem Hasan picked up four wickets, while Roston Chase scored an unbeaten 43. However, Bangladesh struggled with the bat and lost four quick wickets before rain interrupted play.
Jaker Ali Replaces Mominul Haque After Concussion Symptoms
The Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed that Mominul Haque would take no further part in the match after showing concussion symptoms. The injury occurred during the 78th over of the West Indies' first innings when he was fielding at short leg.
A press release from the board stated: "Mominul Haque had suffered a head injury while fielding in the 78th over of the West Indies first innings. As he has shown signs of concussion, he has been replaced by Jaker Ali Anik as the concussion sub for the remainder of the match."
Mominul had also dropped Chase at short leg off Nayeem's bowling when the West Indies batter was on 27. Jaker Ali entered the playing XI as his replacement and joined Litton Das at the crease after Bangladesh lost four wickets in their second innings.
Roston Chase's Three Wickets Leave Bangladesh Reeling at 34/4
Bangladesh lost their first wicket early in the second innings when Shamar Joseph dismissed Tanzid Hasan Tamim for a duck. Chase then took control with the ball, removing first-innings centurion Shadman Islam for 13.
The off-spinner followed it up by dismissing Tawhid Hridoy for a second-ball duck. Hridoy attempted an aggressive shot but failed to connect properly, allowing Jayden Seales to complete a comfortable catch.
Chase then trapped captain Najmul Hossain Shanto leg-before for 10. Shanto reviewed the decision, but the replays showed three reds, leaving Bangladesh at 34/4 after losing four wickets in fewer than 13 overs.
The collapse left the hosts only 61 runs ahead. Jaker Ali and Litton were tasked with rebuilding the innings before rain brought the second session to an early close, ten minutes before the scheduled tea break.
Nayeem Hasan Takes Four Wickets as West Indies Bowled Out for 245
The West Indies resumed day three at 134/4 and moved to 213/6 by lunch. Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who had reached his half-century in 164 deliveries, added 65 runs with Justin Greaves before Shoriful Islam dismissed him for 56 off 184 balls.
Chanderpaul edged a delivery while attempting to drive away from his body, and Shanto completed a diving catch. Bangladesh had another opportunity to strike earlier when Mominul dropped Chase off Nayeem's bowling, with the batter on 27.
Greaves also fell before lunch after Nayeem trapped him LBW for 46 with a straight delivery. The pitch had started to offer less turn than it did on the first two days, so Shanto introduced Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 24th over. The West Indies added only 32 runs after lunch.
Miraz stumped Joshua Bishop for 15 with quick work from Litton behind the wickets, while Nayeem removed Shamar Joseph for four and Jomel Warrican for a duck. Jayden Seales became the final wicket when he mistimed a slog off Nayeem and sent the ball towards Miraz, who took a simple catch.
