Legendary English fast bowler James Anderson is all set to join the men's squad of the Manchester Originals in the upcoming season of 'The Hundred.' He will join them at Old Trafford in Manchester.
If it's about legacy for England, it's James Anderson. The legendary quick has featured in over two decades of international cricket and has an exceptional record, starring in over 400 games for the Three Lions.
Anderson made his debut back in 2002 against Australia in ODIs, and since then, the young man has grown old with the Three Lions. Though known as one of the most legendary Test bowlers for England, Anderson is also the highest wicket-taker for England in ODI cricket.
Though Anderson decided to pull out of ODI games from 2015, when the pacer was just 33 years old, to shift his focus only on the longest format of the game.
Manchester Originals pick James Anderson for the upcoming season
One of England's most exceptional cricketers, Sir James Anderson, has finally decided to be part of franchise-level cricket. The Hundred will soon host its fifth edition, as James Anderson has been picked as a Vitality Wildcard by the Manchester Originals.
According to the rules of The Hundred, each team has the liberty to select two men's and two women's players in the Vitality Wildcard draft. This gives an additional opportunity for players previously unselected in The Hundred to put themselves on the big stage through a remarkable performance in the English domestic season.
Anderson is now the second oldest player to be picked in The Hundred, and if he goes on to make an appearance, he will be the second oldest at 42 years, after Imran Tahir, who made his last appearance in the 2022 edition aged 43 years and 149 days.
ECB announced the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy in James Anderson's honour
The India vs England Test series was named the Pataudi Trophy back in 2007 to honour the legacy of former Indian legends Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his father, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi.
After James Anderson announced his retirement from the international stage, the English Cricket Board made the proposition to the BCCI to change the name of the series to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, honouring the two modern greats of the game.
Tendulkar and Anderson both were present at the inauguration ceremony of the trophy, and this is the first time India and England are playing for the title after its name change.
The legendary English pacer retired as the third-highest wicket-taker in the world, with 991 wickets in his career that spanned over 2 decades.
Anderson was out of franchise cricket for a long span of his career
James Anderson, to focus on international cricket for England and to emerge as the greatest pacer with the red ball, kept himself away from the franchise-level games. Despite luring offers from around the world, Anderson had never featured in any such tournament.
He registered in the IPL auction for 2025 after announcing his retirement from international cricket, but went unsold. The pacer has had a good Vitality Blast series, as he has claimed 14 wickets in 8 games.
