Former Australian pace bowler James Pattinson has joined Nottinghamshire for the third time after signing an all-format deal for the entire 2022 season.

Pattinson, who played 21 Tests for Australia national team between 2011-2020, had played for Nottinghamshire in the 2017 and 2019 seasons. The speedster has claimed 40 wickets at an average of 15.22 for the county club.

Trent Bridge felt like home from the moment I first stepped through the gates. To arrive here and be met by a group of guys that made me so welcome from minute dot was pretty special, and I’m looking forward to getting back amongst them again,” Pattinson said in a statement.

“The bowling group did some special things last season. Hopefully I can add something to that and help the club enjoy some success in the coming years,” he added.

Peter Moores mentions two great qualities of James Pattinson

Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores acknowledged that Pattinson has complete dedication and commitment towards the club.

We first recruited James in 2017 because we believed he possessed the two qualities you always look for in an overseas signing: tremendous pedigree and the desire to commit fully to life at the club,” Moores said.

Pattinson’s career has been marred by several injuries that led him to announce his retirement for Australia in October 2021, two months ahead of Ashes 2021-22.

He picked 81 wickets for Australia in his 10-year stint with the national team in the red-ball format. His best figures of 5/27 came against West Indies in Hobart in 2015.

Pattinson has also played 15 One-Day International matches for Australia and picked 16 wickets from those games.
