Hyderabad Kingsmen head coach Jason Gillespie recently shared an update regarding the availability of Glenn Maxwell for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026. Gillespie clarified when the veteran Australian all-rounder will join the Hyderabad Kingsmen squad for the tournament, which began on March 26.

The Hyderabad Kingsmen need momentum after suffering a massive 69-run defeat against Lahore Qalandars in their opening PSL match. The Marnus Labuschagne-led team struggled to chase down a 200-run target and was bowled out for just 130 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Thursday.

Hopefully He Will Join Us Soon - Jason Gillespie on Glenn Maxwell

Speaking during a media interaction on Saturday, Jason Gillespie confirmed that Glenn Maxwell will miss the initial phase of the PSL. The Hyderabad Kingsmen head coach said that the management expects the Australian all-rounder to join the team during the latter half of the competition.

“We have to wait. He is locked in for the back half of the tournament. The exact date of his arrival, we’re not sure yet. We’re waiting for more information, but hopefully he will join us soon, ” Gillespie said.

Glenn Maxwell has been going through poor form. During the recent T20 World Cup, Maxwell managed just 62 runs across three innings. The all-rounder scored only 76 runs in 11 matches for the Melbourne Stars during the Big Bash League 2025-26 season.

During his T20I career, he has scored 2,897 runs in 130 matches at a strike rate of 154.42, including five centuries and 12 half-centuries. He has taken 51 wickets at an economy rate of 8.13. Overall, he has scored 10,986 runs in 503 T20s and also taken 198 wickets at an economy rate of 7.86.

Maaz Sadaqat Has Started Training Today - Jason Gillespie

Despite the absence of Glenn Maxwell, the Hyderabad Kingsmen received positive news regarding Maaz Sadaqat. The young all-rounder missed the opening Pakistan Super League match against Lahore Qalandars due to injury concerns.

Jason Gillespie is optimistic about Sadaqat’s availability. The head coach confirmed that the young all-rounder has resumed practice sessions and highlighted his role in the Hyderabad Kingsmen setup ahead of their clash against Quetta Gladiators.

“Maaz has started training today. He’s an important part of our squad. We’re hopeful he will be available for selection tomorrow. It depends on how he trains and recovers, but if everything goes well, he’ll certainly be in strong consideration.”

Hyderabad Kingsmen Aim to Bounce Back After Defeat to Lahore Qalandars

The Hyderabad Kingsmen need to bounce back after Lahore Qalandars outplayed them in their opening match. The defending champions secured a 69-run win at the Gaddafi Stadium, exposing weaknesses in the Hyderabad Kingsmen bowling attack from the start.

Lahore Qalandars took advantage of the inexperienced bowling unit to post 199 for 6 in 20 overs. Fakhar Zaman scored 53 runs, while Haseebullah Khan added an unbeaten 40, setting a big target for Hyderabad Kingsmen.

Hyderabad Kingsmen struggled during the chase and could not match the experience of the defending champions. Jason Gillespie will expect a better team performance as they look for their first Pakistan Super League win against Quetta Gladiators.
