Former West Indies Test captain Jason Holder was the only cricketer to retain an all-format central contract as the Caribbean Cricket Board announced a list of 18 players who have been offered. The 18-man central contract list witnessed a few new faces along with some surprise exclusions. The men in maroon enjoyed a promising season, recording a convincing Test series victory in Bangladesh and performing incredibly well against Sri Lanka at home.

Nkrumah Bonner, Joshua Da Silva, Akeal Hosein and Kyle Mayers have earned their maiden contracts as all of them were integral in West Indies’ Test series win in Bangladesh. Notably, spin bowling all-rounder Roston Chase missed out, while Shimron Hetmyer, Keemo Paul, Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell have lost their white-ball contracts.

Test specialists Shane Dowrich and Shamarh Brooks are no longer having West Indies’ red-ball contracts. The evaluation period for the 2021-22 contracts covered the performances from the 1st of April 2020 to the 1st of April 2021. Jimmy Adams, Cricket West Indies Director, expressed his delightedness for the players who have received central contracts for the upcoming season. The former national team’s captain also hopes for those who missed out to work hard and earn them back next year.

“I am happy for all the players who have been offered retainer contracts for the upcoming period. Especially pleasing was the number of players who were awarded first-time contracts in recognition of their performances during the period under review. I know that the eleven players who have lost their International retainers will be striving and fighting hard to get back into the teams and earn their central contracts back next year,” Adams said as quoted by India Today.
