Young Indian fast bowler Shivam Mavi said that he is optimistic about his career after receiving support from veteran bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami.

Shivam Mavi mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami advised him about dealing with injuries in their conversations.

Mavi was touted as the next good pacer for India

Shivam Mavi, who is known for his express pace, gained prominence with his impressive performances in the 2018 U-19 World Cup, where the Indian cricket team secured the title under Prithvi Shaw’s captaincy.

However, the young fast bowler has faced ongoing struggles with injuries since then.

Many promising players from the 2018 Under-19 World Cup, including Shaw, Shubman Gill, and Arshdeep Singh, have represented Team India.

Riyan Parag also recently made his India debut against Zimbabwe. However, Shivam Mavi from the same batch has had his career hindered by injuries.

I Have Spoken To Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami - Shivam Mavi

Shivam Mavi said that he has sought advice from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami, both of whom have dealt with serious injuries in their careers. Mavi mentioned that he learned from them that injuries are uncontrollable.

“I have spoken to Jassi bhai and Shami bhai. Just to seek their opinion. After talking to them one thing I have learnt is I can’t control the injuries. As both of them said, ‘You can’t control the injuries. Fast bowling is not an easy job, not everyone can bowl fast.'”

Mavi said that he is committed to maintaining his pace and refuses to slow down despite dealing with injuries.

He highlighted that bowling slower would make it easier for batsmen. Mavi added that he is determined to keep his speed as he works on regaining his rhythm in bowling.

"Pace gave me the recognition. If you are bowling below 140 kilometers per hour, it becomes easier for the batsmen. I have tried to stick to that pace. To hit 140 after an injury is difficult till you find that rhythm," Mavi told The Indian Express.

Mavi was acquired by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 6.4 crore at last year's auction. However, he missed the IPL 2024 due to injury.

Overall, he has played 32 matches in the IPL. He has taken 30 wickets at an average of 31.4 and an economy rate of 8.71, with best figures of 4/21.

Shivam Mavi Has Played Six T20I Matches For India

Mavi has represented the Indian cricket team in six T20 internationals. The right-arm pacer has taken seven wickets at an average of 17.57 and an economy rate of 8.79, with best bowling figures of 4/22.

He last played competitive cricket in August 2023 and missed the domestic season with Uttar Pradesh.

The young bowler joined the Lucknow Super Giants' pre-season training but had to withdraw from the IPL due to a recurring stress fracture.

He recently played his first match in ages for Kashi Rudras in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League. He bowled two overs, conceding 31 runs without taking a wicket.
