India's stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah has hinted at Mohammed Shami being a part of India's squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Bumrah mentioned that Shami can still be a part of India's squad if everything goes well in hi favor.

Mohammed Shami was not included in India's squad for the five-match Test series against Australia as he was not fit at the time of the squad announcement. He recently marked his return from injury with a Ranji Trophy match for Bengal.

Jasprit Bumrah hints at Mohammed Shami's international comeback

Jasprit Bumrah attended a press conference a day before the first Test between Australia and India in Perth. During the media interaction, Bumrah revealed that India have finalized its playing combination but did not reveal it.

Bumrah further added that the Indian team management is keeping a watch on Mohammed Shami's progress and he can be a part of the squad if everything goes nice and well.

"We have finalised our combination. You'll come to know it tomorrow. Shami has been an integral part and the management is keeping a close eye. If everything goes well, you might see him here as well," Bumrah was quoted as saying by RevSportz.

Mohammed Shami has been a big part of India's fast-bowling success in the past decade or so. He has won India a no. of matches with his high skill and ability to trouble the opposition batters.

Mohammed Shami's numbers in Australia

The 34-year-old has loads of experience bowling in all the conditions. He has played 8 Tests in Australia and picked up 31 wickets at an average of 32.16 with 2 five-wicket hauls. In his absence, India are likely to slot in another Bengal fast bowler Akash Deep for the first Test.

While he will not play the first Test match in Perth, Mohammed Shami could be back for the second Test in Adelaide, which is also the only pink-ball Test of the series. There is a gap between the first and second Test which can enable Shami to be back for the second Test match.

Shami is currently monitored closely by the BCCI's medical team and if everything goes well, he can be a part of India's squad soon. His inclusion will be a big boost to India's chances for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah to lead Team India

Jasprit Bumrah, the designated vice-captain of the team, will lead India in the absence of the regular captain Rohit Sharma, who is not a part of the team yet for the birth of his second child. Rohit is expected to join the team before the second Test in Adelaide.

Bumrah has led Team India previously as well. He led the team in 2022 against England when Rohit Sharma was out after testing positive for Covid-19. Unfortunately, India lost the match despite dominating for the most part.
