With this honor, Bumrah joined an elite group of Indian cricketers who have won the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award, as the ace fast bowler became the sixth Indian to do so. He joined the elite club of Indian legends like Rahul Dravid (2004), Gautam Gambhir (2009), Virender Sehwag (2010), Ravichandran Ashwin (2016), and Virat Kohli (2018).

Additionally, India has now equaled Australia’s record for the most players to have received the prestigious award after Bumrah was honored with the ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year 2024. The only player to have claimed the honor twice is Steve Smith, who won it in 2015 and 2017.

After returning from a back injury in late 2023, Bumrah dominated Test cricket with 71 wickets, the highest tally in the traditional format of the game in 2024, followed by England’s Gus Atkinson (52). The Indian pacer bowled 357 overs with an incredible average of 14.92 and a strike rate of 30.1, showcasing his brilliance in both home and away conditions.
