Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya was mighty impressed with the performance of the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the Eliminator of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday, May 30.
Hardik Pandya said that having Jasprit Bumrah in the line-up is a luxury and he is a priceless, premium asset for the side, just as Mumbai’s real estate is, as it is famously expensive and considered a luxury to own.
Jasprit Bumrah shines again and helps MI beat GT in the Eliminator
The premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah once again did the thing for which he is known in the must-win match against the Gujarat Titans at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh.
In a match where over 400 runs were scored, he bowled all his four overs and conceded just 27 runs by taking a crucial wicket of the all-rounder Washington Sundar.
Bumrah made the run-scoring difficult for the Gujarat Titans and took the wicket of Washington Sundar in the 14th over to bring the Mumbai Indians back in the game.
On the fourth ball of the over, he fired an unplayable 143 kmph yorker to Washington Sundar, who missed the ball as he looked to clip and saw his stumps getting rattled. Sundar was left down on the pitch, lying on his stomach, as he had no answer to Bumrah's yorker.
With that wicket, Bumrah broke the 84-run stand with Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar, and the latter walked back to the hut with 48 runs under his belt.
It's like Mumbai housing prices - he's that expensive - Hardik Pandya hails Jasprit Bumrah
During the post-match presentation ceremony, MI skipper Hardik Pandya lauded Jasprit Bumrah and compared him to Mumbai's real estate. He added that he brings Bumrah to attack when he feels that the match is getting out of Mumbai Indians' hands. Hardik Pandya said:
"(When to bowl Bumrah?) It's very simple. Whenever you think the game is going away, just bring him (Bumrah). When you have that it's a luxury. It's like Mumbai housing prices - he's that expensive."
"I was just watching the scoreboard and I thought if we can keep extra runs at the end, I had the bowlers to bowl it. It was important that Jassi comes and bowls that over so that the margin becomes longer (the 18th over). Very important to recover well. Looking forward to the next game."
He took his time and once he got into rhythm - Hardik Pandya hails Rohit Sharma
Hardik Pandya also said that the surface got better to bat on in the second innings, but the MI bowlers held their nerves and got the job done. He said:
"At one point of time the game was even-stevens. I thought the wicket got better in the second innings. It started to come on well, they got into rhythm and we realised we need to hold our nerves and back our boys."
Hardik Pandya further lauded Rohit Sharma for his match-winning knock of 81 runs and Jonny Bairstow for shining in his debut game. The MI skipper also praised Richard Gleeson and Ashwani Kumar for their efforts. Hardik Pandya elaborated:
"The way Jonny batted and started.. for him to make his debut for us, it's a special franchise, coming in and playing the way he played. The way Ro batted. He took his time and once he got into rhythm, it was beautiful."
"The way Gleeson bowled. Jassi being Jassi. Ashwani.. everyone chipped in well and we held our nerves. I would've liked couple more (big hits). The little margins help. We wanted to push in batting and I think we were able to do that."
