Former KKR batter Manoj Tiwary lauded Jasprit Bumrah for his outstanding bowling performance in the IPL 2025 Eliminator between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Titans (GT). Tiwary said that batters are haunted by Bumrah’s bowling, recalling how Shane Warne was once haunted by facing Sachin Tendulkar.
Mumbai secured a 20-run victory over Gujarat in Mullanpur on Friday, May 30. This win helped MI secure a place in Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS), set to take place in Ahmedabad on Sunday, June 1. Bumrah took the wicket of Washington Sundar, which proved to be the turning point in the match.
Jasprit Bumrah Did His Work Like He Always Does - Manoj Tiwary
Manoj Tiwary stated that Jasprit Bumrah dismissing Washington Sundar was crucial, adding that the match could have been much closer without that wicket. Tiwary recalled that Shane Warne was once haunted by Tendulkar in his dreams and said that Bumrah now instills that same fear in batters.
"Bumrah did his work like he always does. If he had not taken Washington's wicket, he was batting at a strike rate of 200, the match might have been a lot more tight. I used to remember Shane Warne being haunted by Sachin Tendulkar in his dreams, now in this age, every batter is haunted by Bumrah in their dreams," Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.
Chasing a target of 229 runs, Gujarat Titans reached 151 runs in 13.3 overs with three wickets down. However, Bumrah removed Washington Sundar, who scored 48 off 24 balls. Bumrah’s precise yorker to dismiss Sundar halted a dangerous partnership. Gujarat then collapsed from 151/3 to 208/6.
MI Success Mantra Has Been Jasprit Bumrah - Manoj Tiwary
Manoj Tiwary said that Jasprit Bumrah has been the key to Mumbai Indians' recent success. He added that Bumrah consistently bowls economical spells.
"The success that MI have now, their mantra has been Bumrah. Ever since he has joined the team from injury, MI's results have picked up. It is a fact, there are no two ways about it. When Bumrah is there, their bowling gets so strong that more than half of the work is sorted for the captain, because he is never expensive in his spell," Tiwary added.
Bumrah conceded just eight runs in his final over. He finished his four overs with an economy rate of 6.8, giving away only 27 runs and taking a crucial wicket. It’s worth mentioning that the pacer missed the initial matches while recovering from a back injury.
Just hand him the ball - Hardik Pandya
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya praised Jasprit Bumrah for his vital role. Pandya added that Bumrah has a knack for turning the game around during crucial moments.
"Whenever you think the game is getting far, just hand him the ball," Pandya said during the post-match presentation.
Bumrah has claimed 18 wickets in 11 matches, boasting an impressive average of 15.33 and an economy rate of 6.36. He is MI’s second-highest wicket-taker and ranks fifth overall in the tournament. Mumbai Indians will face Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
