Jasprit Bumrah is all set to lead India in the first Test against Australia in Perth, marking only his second stint as captain in Test cricket. The star pacer said that it is a huge honor for him to lead the country in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Australia.

Embracing a momentous milestone ahead of the highly competitive five-match Test series opener at the Optus Stadium in Perth, starting on November 22, Jasprit Bumrah also emphasized that his leadership approach will be different from the styles of his predecessors, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

For the Indian speedster, this isn’t about the position, but it’s about the immense responsibility and privilege that come with the leadership.

Jasprit Bumrah also revealed that he had some conversations with Rohit Sharma but got more clarity on leading the Indian cricket team after coming to Australia. It is being said that Rohit will once again take the reins of the team in the second Test against Australia in Adelaide.

Notably, Bumrah is taking charge of the first Test of the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Perth, as the regular skipper is on paternity leave. Rohit decided to skip the Perth Test to spend some time with his newborn son and his family back in Mumbai.

Jasprit Bumrah said at the pre-match press conference in Perth: “It is an honor. I have my own style. Virat was different; Rohit was different. and I have my own way. It is a privilege. I don't take it as a position. I love taking responsibility, I spoke with Rohit earlier. But I got a little bit of clarity on leading the side after coming in here.”

Bumrah further told the media, “We are very well prepared because we came here early. We got some time to spend at WACA. A lot of youngsters are coming here for the first time. But when we came here for the first time, we got less time than this, and we ended up winning the series. We always believe and have confidence in our side.

Whenever we play, whatever the situation might be, so, yes, in terms of preparations, we are in a very good place. And then now it’s all about being mentally switched on, and we are looking to do that, and hopefully things will fall into place.”
