India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah unleashed pure fire at Eden Gardens as he greeted Kyle Verreynne with a brutal toe-crushing yorker on the very first ball after dismissing Tony de Zorzi in the ongoing first Test against South Africa in Kolkata.

Jasprit Bumrah turned Eden Gardens into his own arena of destruction, proving once again that he doesn’t need pitch support to create chaos. He is already India’s standout bowler in the opening session, and he continued his fire on the Proteas batting lineup.

The Indian camp went up instantly in a loud appeal, and for a moment, it felt like Bumrah had struck gold straight away, but the umpire signaled leg byes, ruling that the ball was drifting down the leg side. However, Bumrah didn’t get the wicket but reminded everyone why he is considered one of the most dangerous bowlers in world cricket.

Jasprit Bumrah turns Eden Gardens into a nightmare for South Africa

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah ripped through South Africa’s top order with a devastating spell at the Eden Gardens. South Africa had made a solid start, with Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton putting together a rare fifty-run partnership—their first in India after 17 long innings.

They were scoring freely and looked completely in control. But the moment Bumrah returned for his sixth over, the moment changed instantly. Rickelton was pushed at the wrong line as the Indian pacer came around the wicket. The ball shaped away at just the right time, kissed past the outside edge, and crashed into the off stump.

And then in the very next over, Bumrah banged one in just short of a length. The delivery leapt sharply, surprising even a well-set Markram, who could only glove it to the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. However, Bumrah wasn’t done yet, as Tony de Zorzi was his next victim.

The premier bowler went around the wicket again and fired in a skiddy delivery that thudded into the back leg. De Zorzi reviewed the decision in desperation, but it only worsened things for his team as South Africa lost their review with the wicket against India at the Eden Gardens.

Jasprit Bumrah: King of the New Ball

Meanwhile, Bumrah has once again proven why he is a nightmare for opening batters in Test cricket. Since 2018, no bowler has dismissed both openers in an innings more often than the Indian bowler, which highlights his unmatched impact with the new ball in the format.

Bumrah leads the chart with an incredible 13 instances of removing both openers in a single Test innings. He is followed closely by the former England pacer Stuart Broad with 12 such performances, while the former Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin stands third with 11. South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada and England’s James Anderson share the fourth with nine each.
