Jasprit Bumrah-starrer India had a huge setback after a humiliating top-order collapse caused them to fall short of chasing a low-looking total of 193 in the final innings at Lord's. This found India on the backfoot, as the Men in Blue will now advance to Manchester to play in a do-or-die contest.

England extended their lead in the series to 2-1 after beating India by 22 runs when Mohammed Siraj had a tragic end to his patient innings, which lasted for 30 balls.

Now going to Manchester, India will have to come from behind and win their first-ever test at the venue to make a historic revival in the series. But under such circumstances, the Indian team management should not go with the pre-decided plan of making Bumrah play only in 3 matches.

This was announced beforehand by the BCCI that India will have the services of ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah only for three matches in the series, to keep a check on his workload, citing the overload of injuries he has faced in recent years.

Former coach pleads with Jasprit Bumrah to play at Manchester

Former Indian coach and veteran spinner Anil Kumble has stepped up to urge the BCCI and Indian management, as well as Jasprit Bumrah, to make the pacer play in the remaining games of the series.

Though Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep had done the trick for India, as the two picked up a five-wicket haul each in the first and second innings, respectively, the faith remains in India's star pacer Jasprit Bumrah.

Kumble has a stern warning to the Indian team, saying Bumrah's absence might lead to the end of India's hope in the series.

"I would certainly, if I'm a part of that group, I would certainly push Bumrah to play the next game because that's crucial. If he doesn't play and then you lose the Test match, that's it. Series is done and dusted."

"I think Bumrah should play both the Test matches. I know he said, I'm only going to play three. We have a long break after this. You don't need to play the home series. You can take a break if you want. But Bumrah should be playing the next," the former coach said on JioStar after the end of the third match.

India is yet to win a Test at Manchester

India has not had the best of records while playing at several venues across England, their worst record being at Birmingham and Manchester as well.

Recently, in this series under the leadership of the current Indian skipper, Shubman Gill, India earned their first-ever Test victory at Edgbaston in Birmingham, which was a huge 336-run victory over the hosts.

Now, it's time for the new Indian side to feature in another match at a new venue, where India has a terrible record. The team has never won a match here, with 9 appearances, and five matches have ended in a draw.

Jasprit Bumrah played an inevitable role for India at Lord's

India might have lost the Lord's Test, but this does not discard Jasprit Bumrah's critical role for India with both the ball and the bat. In the first innings, he picked up a five-wicket haul, which featured him on the Lord's honours board.

This was backed by another two in the second innings, while Jasprit Bumrah's most crucial impact came with the bat, when he defended 54 balls and played a crucial hand alongside Ravindra Jadeja to save India from a humiliating collapse.
