Jasprit Bumrah frustrates BCCI; Indian cricket board now vows to...

The Indian Cricket Board, BCCI, is reportedly making some changes to their policy for Jasprit Bumrah, which would lead to Bumrah's snub from the Indian Test team, considering his fitness woes, which have been a regular concern to the Indian management.
India has faced a serious concern with their best fast bowlers' injury proneness. Jasprit Bumrah has missed two Tests in the England series, both at very crucial junctures of the game. He was first rested at Edgbaston due to injury concerns, a match played immediately after England's early lead in the series.
Bumrah has now missed the final Test at the Oval due to either workload management or due to a niggle he faced, which is being marked as an injury to his ankle. India needs to win the final Test to level the series, and they need their best bowler on the side for the purpose.
BCCI imposes strict conditions on Jasprit Bumrah
The BCCI has reportedly been considering making some changes to its selection policies regarding Jasprit Bumrah's future in the Indian Test team. The Times of India has reported that, according to BCCI's new impositions, Bumrah will only be picked when he is available and deemed fit to feature in every match of the series.
This decision seems to be in contrast with the current series against England, where Bumrah himself had declared earlier that his body would be able to bear the burden of not more than three games. And likely so, as Jasprit Bumrah has featured in just 3 matches in the red-ball series.
“Strength and condition (S&C) coaches can set the workload threshold for each player. But Bumrah’s availability should depend on his fitness, which will be assessed by the medical team," as revealed by TOI's BCCI source.
However, despite injury concerns and a dip in form in England, he still remains the best Indian bowler with 14 wickets at an average of just 26 in the 6 innings he played for India.
Ryan ten Doeschate rules out gossip on Bumrah 'choosing' Tests
After the Oval Test snub, the fans have not only blamed the Indian management, but also Jasprit Bumrah has suffered the toll of their outrage. There was speculation over social media that Bumrah is likely picking and choosing the Tests he wants to play in.
However, after the end of Day 1's play at The Oval, Indian assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate revealed that this would not be a fair comment, as the decision is always the team's call on which matches he would play.
“It’s quite a complex issue around Bumrah, you know, we obviously want to wheel him in, but we also want to respect where his body’s at, and on the basis of that, we just felt that it wasn’t worth including him in the squad," Ten Doeschate said.
“… I don’t think picking and choosing is a fair comment to Bumrah, he did say he was going to play three games, he left it up to us which three he played, we’ve tried to manage the situation, it’s not ideal, I guess giving those guys attention, the guys who aren’t playing particularly when you’re carrying 18 is important," added the Indian coach.

India does not have any more 5-match Test series till July 2026
After the conclusion of the 5-match Test series against England, India does not have any further 5-match Test series until July 2026. However, this does not reduce Jasprit Bumrah's or the Indian management's concern, since he plays across all three formats for India and is considered equally important across all three formats of the game.
However, it is also to be kept in mind that Bumrah's injury concerns have not sprung out of thin air. He played five Tests against Australia back in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, and sustained an injury in the final Test after being overbowled. He bowled the most overs for the Indian team as they strived for success with the ball.
