Replacing a captain like Rohit Sharma is not an easy task or any team in the world and Mumbai Indians are no exception. The India superstar has been leading the IPL franchise since 2013 and has done a stunning job so far.

In his very first season as a captain, he led Mumbai Indians to their first-ever IPL title. In 2020, he helped Mumbai Indians become the first-ever team in the history of IPL to win five titles. Speculations are rife that Hardik Pandya might be the candidate to replace Rohit Sharma as the Mumbai Indians captain after the franchise secured his services last month from Gujarat Titans.

Several reports have also suggested that Jasprit Bumrah is also in contention. It would be interesting to see who eventually replaces Rohit Sharma as the captain of the IPL franchise. And while only time will reveal his successor, former Sri Lanka and Mumbai Indians bowler Dilhara Fernando believes Hardik Pandya is a good choice to be the next captain.

“I think Hardik going to MI is a good choice because he has the leadership qualities. I think after Rohit Sharma, he’ll lead Mumbai Indians, that’s what I feel,” Fernando told IANS.

Rohit Sharma likely to lead in IPL 2024:

Rohit Sharma is also likely to lead Mumbai Indians in the next season of the IPL. Speculations were rife that Hardik Pandya might replace him as the captain of the team after returning to the team but it looks highly unlikely. Rohit would be desperate to make amends in IPL 2024 after failing to do well as a batsman as well as captain in recent IPL seasons.

In 2021 and 2022, Mumbai Indians failed to make it to the playoffs before finally progressing ahead of the league stage in IPL 2023. As far as Rohit’s performance with the bat is concerned, he has not touched the 400-run mark since IPL 2019.
