Former Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik said that captain Rohit Sharma and coach Gautam Gambhir should rest Jasprit Bumrah for the third and final Test match. Dinesh Karthik also named Mohammed Siraj as Jasprit Bumrah's replacement for the upcoming Test match against New Zealand.

The Rohit Sharma-led team will take on the Tom Latham-led side in the third Test at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, starting on Friday, November 1. India will be hoping to secure its first victory in the series after suffering two consecutive losses. Team India could rest Jasprit Bumrah for the next match.

Jasprit Bumrah Needs A Rest Without A Doubt - Dinesh Karthik

Speaking on Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said that Jasprit Bumrah needs a break after playing four consecutive Test matches. Karthik said that Mohammed Siraj should be included in the squad. The former batter added that he doesn’t see any changes in the playing XI apart from Bumrah.

“Jasprit Bumrah definitely needs a rest without a doubt. That is happening, and you will see Mohammed Siraj come in,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

“I can’t think of any other change unless someone has a niggle. I don’t see any reason why the batters who played this game or the bowlers should not get an opportunity,” he added.

Jasprit Bumrah Has Taken Three Wickets In Two Matches

The Indian team had a streak of 18 consecutive Test series victories on home soil. However, it ended with a 113-run defeat to New Zealand during the second Test match in Pune on October 26. Notably, the Rohit Sharma-led team suffered an eight-wicket loss against the Tom Latham-led team in Bengaluru.

Jasprit Bumrah hasn't been at his best during the ongoing home Test series. The right-arm pacer has taken only three wickets at an economy rate of 3.09 across two matches. He was also vice-captain of the side for the Test series. Bumrah also played two Test matches against Bangladesh on home soil.

Still Weighing Very Heavily On My Mind - Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik voiced his frustration over India's struggles to recover in the series, saying that the recent loss is still bothering him. He admitted it's difficult for him to think clearly about the lineup right now. However, he wants to rest Jasprit Bumrah and bring Mohammed Siraj back into the team.

“The loss and the disappointment of the defeat are still weighing very heavily on my mind. I am not able to think very clearly what the XI will be. It’s too short a notice to be honest. But if I had to think straight away, I would say rest Bumrah and bring back Siraj,” Karthik added.

India's two losses have impacted their chances of making it to the WTC 2025 final match. However, there's still hope if they perform well in their next six matches. To keep their hopes alive, Team India needs to win against New Zealand and secure victories in at least three of the Tests against Australia.
