A massive update has arrived on the participation of the India National Cricket Team pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming Asia Cup.

The BCCI-hosted Asia Cup 2025 will be held in the UAE from September 9 to 28, with the high-voltage match between India and Pakistan scheduled for September 14 in Dubai.

Bumrah took the bold decision to miss two Test matches to manage his workload and avoid any injuries like he suffered after playing all five matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

Jasprit Bumrah's decision was met with severe criticism, and many questioned his commitment to the Indian team and raised questions over his future in Test cricket.

Bumrah played Leeds, Lord's, and Manchester Tests for India and picked up 14 wickets at an average of 26. With India trailing by 1-2 heading into the fifth Test at Kennington Oval in London, many urged Bumrah to play one more game.

However, he didn't do that, and India made four changes to the playing XI with Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur, and Anshul Kamboj being replaced by Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel, Karun Nair, and Akash Deep.

Playing him at The Oval would have been a huge risk - BCCI source

As per a report in PTI, Bumrah is unlikely to be available for a full five-match Test series for the rest of his career, with India's next such assignment being in 2027 at home against Australia.

India's next two Test assignments are against the West Indies and South Africa, and the Shubman Gill-led side will play two matches each in those series.

Talking about white-ball cricket, India's next big assignments are the Asia Cup 2025 and the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Reportedly, the BCCI was aware of the "huge risk" associated with Bumrah's participation Oval Test; hence, they decided to manage his workload by resting him to ensure he is available for the Asia Cup 2025.

"There is an Asia Cup around the corner, and the T20 World Cup is also there. He would want to play those events. Considering his body, he can't play every game. He needs to be managed with extra care. Playing him at The Oval would have been a huge risk.

"Going forward, there needs to be a clear plan on how to manage Bumrah’s Test career," said a BCCI source, as quoted by PTI.

BCCI to discuss Jasprit Bumrah's Test future after Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2024

India National Cricket Team assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate recently said that the availability of Jasprit Bumrah is a "complex issue" and they decided to honour the pacer's decision to play only three matches.

Overall, Bumrah bowled 119.4 overs in the three matches that he played, and many have raised questions over the pace spearhead getting special treatment and getting the opportunity to pick and choose matches.

Reportedly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee and other officials will meet after the end of the ongoing Test series to review the tour. The top agenda of that meeting is expected to be the future of Bumrah in Test cricket, and discussions regarding that will take place.
