Jasprit Bumrah has shown clear dissatisfaction over the DRS call against John Campbell on Day 4 of the ongoing second and final Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

It was a moment full of drama and tension when Jasprit Bumrah almost got John Campbell out in a thrilling fashion. He bowled a sharp delivery that moved back into the left-hander and stayed very low. Campbell, trying to play a drive, shuffled across and missed the ball as it hit his pads.

Bumrah and his teammates went up in a loud appeal for leg-before-wicket, sure they had gotten the big wicket. But the on-field umpire Richard Illingworth turned down the appeal. The Indian players looked surprised and quickly decided to take the review for the LBW.

When the third umpire, Alex Wharf, began checking the replays, the ball was seen clearly hitting Campbell’s pad, and it looked very close to hitting the stumps. Then the UltraEdge showed a small spike just as the ball passed near both the bat and the pad.

That meant Campbell might have just gotten a tiny inside edge before the ball hit his pad. After a long check, Alex Wharf confirmed that there was indeed an inside edge and told the on-field umpire to stick with his original “not out” decision, leaving the Indian camp disappointed.

“It’s out, but technology can’t prove it”: Jasprit Bumrah questions DRS accuracy

After the third umpire’s decision, Bumrah expressed his frustration by questioning the accuracy of the technology. The Indian bowler was heard saying, “You know it as well. It's out, but the technology cannot prove it.” Even one of the commentators agreed with Bumrah.

He said, “And I think just being Bumrah on the stump mike, he has just said exactly what a lot of people at home watching would have said.”

John Campbell smashes records with maiden Test century

Meanwhile, John Campbell made the most of the call as the West Indies opener went on to hit a maiden Test hundred. He reached his maiden Test century with a six off Ravindra Jadeja, sending the ball soaring into the stands at wide long-on at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

The West Indies batter removed his helmet and celebrated, soaking in the applause from the dressing room. It was a hard-fought hundred. He took 48 innings to hit his maiden Test century as an opener. He created history for the West Indies as he ended a long drought for the team’s openers.

Campbell becomes the first West Indies opener to reach three figures in a Test since March 2023, breaking a near two-decade-long wait against India. Before Campbell, the last West Indies opener to score a century against India was Daren Ganga, who made 135 in Basseterre back in 2006.

Campbell’s Test hundred in India is the first time since West Indies opener Wavell Hinds achieved the feat at Eden Gardens in 2002. He also becomes the fifth West Indies batter to reach their maiden Test hundred with a six.

Campbell also becomes the first West Indies opener, aside from Kraigg Brathwaite, to score a Test century against a team other than Bangladesh or Zimbabwe since Chris Gayle’s 150 against New Zealand in July 2012.
