The India National Cricket Team is not ready to take any chance with Jasprit Bumrah before the upcoming crucial two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting on August 15 in Galle. Even though Jasprit Bumrah has been named in the Test squad, the team management will not rush him back until they are fully satisfied with his fitness.
Now, all eyes are now on Bumrah's recovery as the Indian team management, selectors, coaches, and medical staff wait to see how his body responds before giving him the green signal to play. Amid this, Hardik Pandya reveals why 'India Captaincy' was never his ultimate goal.
Jasprit Bumrah's availability for Sri Lanka tour still not confirmed
As reported by Times of India, Jasprit Bumrah has already completed his fitness and body conditioning work at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru after reporting there on Thursday (July 30). The next stage of the premier pacer’s recovery begins on Saturday, July 31, when he starts bowling again. After that, the workload will slowly increase if everything goes well.
The Indian team management believes that bowling sessions will give the clearest picture of his fitness. Since Bumrah is a fast bowler and he has had a history of injuries, his body goes through much more pressure than a batter's. And that is why the medical team wants to see Bumrah bowl at full pace before making any final decision for the Sri Lanka tour.
Jasprit Bumrah gets special knee treatment!!
Bumrah was named in India's Test squad, but he must receive complete fitness clearance before the series begins in Sri Lanka. Recently, the Indian pacer missed the third ODI at Lord's because of an impact injury to his left knee. However, the knee issue did not begin in England.
Actually, Bumrah's left knee started troubling him again during the T20 World Cup 2026, and at that time, the problem was not considered very serious. However, the knee issue needed proper treatment and careful management that was done even during the IPL 2026. Amid this, Rishabh Pant seeks MS Dhoni's guidance ahead of Sri Lanka Test series.
Recently, the BCCI medical team advised Bumrah to take a special injection for the knee. The bowler took the injection and then reported at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence for medical checks and fitness testing. So, there is not any major concern, but the team management wants to be fully assured after watching his bowling to give him clearance for the Sri Lanka Tests.
Jasprit Bumrah's Sri Lanka departure delayed; BCCI waits for final fitness report
A source close to the development was quoted as saying by Times of India: “Selectors were thoroughly briefed. Bumrah was advised an injection by the BCCI medical team and had to rest for the following 8-10 days. The moment that period was over, he reached the CoE for assessment. He is yet to start bowling, and the management will be given a better idea in the coming days.
It is too early to make that call. He will start bowling from Saturday, and the picture will become much clearer when he bowls full throttle. See, it's not a batter we are dealing with. So, the assessment and other protocols are different.”
Well, Bumrah is unlikely to travel with the rest of the Indian squad to Sri Lanka on August 4. The team management wants to wait until they get a complete report after his bowling sessions. If the bowler successfully bowls at full intensity without any discomfort, he could join the Indian squad directly in Galle before the first Test.
