A massive controversy involving Jasprit Bumrah erupted during the first match of the five-match T20I series between the India National Cricket Team and the South Africa National Cricket Team.

The T20I series opener was hosted by Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, and the premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah reached the 100 T20I wickets milestone in the match.

Jasprit Bumrah achieves a historic milestone

Heading into the first T20I match against the Proteas, Jasprit Bumrah was on 99 wickets in the T20I format and needed just one wicket to hit a century.

He managed to do that in the 11th over when he bagged the wicket of Dewald Brevis. On the second ball of the over, Jasprit Bumrah bowled a sharp length ball to Brevis, who was late on a pull shot and spooned it straight up with Suryakumar Yadav taking a dolly at extra cover.

As Brevis was walking back, the umpires stopped him as the third umpire was checking the no-ball. After a few seconds, the TV umpire declared it a legal delivery, and the Proteas batter was asked to leave.

However, the replays showed a different story. It looked like Bumrah's front foot was not behind the popping crease, and the former cricketer Robin Uthappa, who was on-air, claimed it was a no-ball.

Meanwhile, Bumrah picked up his 101st wicket in T20I cricket by dismissing Keshav Maharaj on the fifth ball of the 11th over for the score of 0.
