India National Cricket Team Test skipper Shubman Gill provided a colossal fitness update on the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah after the loss to the England National Cricket Team in the first Test match.

Shubman Gill lost his first Test match as captain at Headingley in Leeds by 5 wickets. The visitors were outclassed by the Ben Stokes-led side in an action-packed full 5-day game.

In the first innings, he delivered an exceptional performance and managed to secure a five-wicket haul even after several catches were dropped off his bowling.

Jasprit Bumrah returned with the figures of 24.4-5-83-5 in the first innings, which helped him surpass Wasim Akram and become the leading wicket-taker among the Asian bowlers in SENA countries.

Meanwhile, things were quite different for the premier right-arm quick in the second innings because the English batters were extra cautious while facing him.

In his 19 overs, Bumrah conceded 57 runs while going wicketless as England easily chased down the 371-run target. He was surprisingly missing out on action in the dying moments of the match on Tuesday, June 24, and this sparked injury concerns.

Shubman Gill handed the new ball, which was taken after the 80th over, to Mohammed Siraj instead of Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja kept bowling from the other end.

No, he's completely fit - Shubman Gill on Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah was also seen taking a shoulder massage during the end stages of the game, and the fear of injury concerns grew among fans. After the match, Shubman Gill was asked about Bumrah missing out on action during the final stages of the play on the BBC Test Match Special.

Shubman Gill dismissed any injury concerns and declared the pacer fully fit. However, he didn't reveal whether the pacer would feature in the second Test match.

“No, he's completely fit. Nothing like that. They were 15 or 20 runs left, so we just wanted to give it to some other bowlers, but he is definitely fit,” Gill said.

“It's definitely match-by-match. We've got a good break after this match. Once we go to Birmingham and see the wicket, we will see if he's going to play that one or not,” he further said.

He was brilliant - Shubman Gill on Rishabh Pant

Shubman Gill also lauded the wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for twin tons and blamed the dropped catches for India's loss. He said:

"He was brilliant. Our top five were brilliant. We still have a young team and a few catches didn't go our way so that's where the game slipped away."

"Going into this game we thought the wicket would offer more than when we played at Edgbaston. We bowled well in the first session but once the Dukes ball gets old, it is easy to score runs. We have a lot of practice sessions organised in the break," he further said.
