Former England skipper Nasser Hussain heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah for his five-wicket haul in the ongoing first Test match against England. The cricketer-turned-commentator described Bumrah as a "genius" with a rare skill set, drawing a comparison to legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne.
Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for India in England's first innings in Leeds. He took five wickets to dismantle the hosts’ batting lineup. The Indian pacer dismissed Zak Crawley (4), Ben Duckett (62), Joe Root (28), Chris Woakes (38), and Josh Tongue (11), finishing with figures of 5 for 83 in 24.4 overs.
There Are Two Brilliant Things to Watch in Cricket - Nasser Hussain
Speaking to Sky Sports, Nasser Hussain compared Jasprit Bumrah’s skill and ability to deceive batters to that of Shane Warne. He also hoped Bumrah would remain injury-free so fans can continue to enjoy his brilliance for many years.
“Hopefully he stays injury-free and we talk about him for years to come. There are two brilliant things to watch in cricket - a wrist spinner like Shane Warne bamboozling batters and a genuine fast bowler like Bumrah bamboozling batters,” Hussain said.
Bumrah made a comeback to Test cricket after recovering from a back injury. He showcased his control, pace, and ability to trouble batters. Three catches were dropped off his bowling, and Harry Brook's dismissal was overturned due to a no-ball.

Jasprit Bumrah Is an Absolute Genius - Nasser Hussain
Nasser Hussain called Jasprit Bumrah an “absolute genius”. He added that while Bumrah’s unique run-up and action aren't something young cricketers should try to imitate, the Indian pacer has mastered his own method.
“He is absolute genius. That is the only word for him. You wouldn't want to replicate him, you wouldn't want to say to young boys and girls to go replicate this run-up or this action,” Hussain said.
“He knows what he is doing, he has perfected an art and he is going to be a thorn in England's side - not for five Tests, maybe three. In those three Test matches he is going to take a shed load of wickets,” he added.
Jasprit Bumrah Equals Kapil Dev’s Record in Overseas Tests
Jasprit Bumrah became the 30th bowler, including both home and overseas players, to reach 150 Test wickets in SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia). He also equaled R. Ashwin’s record for the most five-wicket hauls (11) in the World Test Championship.
Bumrah equaled Kapil Dev's tally of 12 five-wicket hauls in overseas Tests — the most by an Indian bowler. The right-arm pacer now has 210 wickets in 46 Tests at an impressive average of 19.33 and a strike rate of 41.8, including 14 five-wicket hauls.
As for the match situation, the first Test remains evenly poised. India ended Day 3 with a lead of 96 runs, reaching 90/2 in their second innings. KL Rahul (47*) and Shubman Gill (6*) were unbeaten at stumps. Yashasvi Jaiswal (4) and debutant Sai Sudharsan (30) were the two wickets to fall.
