Former Indian fast bowler and ICC match referee Javagal Srinath is once again winning hearts, but this time it is not because of his on-field job.

Javagal Srinath travels in Bengaluru Metro; his simple look goes viral

Actually, Javagal Srinath was spotted travelling in the Bengaluru Metro with a trolley bag, and now his simple appearance is winning hearts on social media.

In the viral photo, the former Indian pacer was seen standing quietly inside the metro, leaning against the wall and holding his trolley bag with one hand.

What caught people's attention was not only the place where Srinath was travelling but also his simple appearance. He was wearing a shirt tucked into his jeans and a basic pair of leather shoes.

There was nothing flashy about his look, even though he is one of India's most successful fast bowlers, and now he is one of the legendary ICC match officials.

Javagal Srinath's celebrated career

Javagal Srinath enjoyed a highly successful international career that lasted 12 years. He played 67 Tests and 229 ODIs for India and finished his career with more than 550 international wickets. He led India's bowling attack during the 1990s and early 2000s.

Srinath also represented India in four World Cups — 1992, 1996, 1999 and 2003. His ODI record was especially impressive. He took 315 ODI wickets, becoming the first Indian fast bowler to cross the 300-wicket mark in ODIs. The former bowler also has 236 wickets to his name in Test cricket. Despite achieving so much in international cricket, Srinath has always been known for his calm and simple personality. After retiring from international cricket, he moved into another important role in the game. Srinath became a match referee and has officiated in several big matches.

Javagal Srinath makes strong case for Test cricket amid T20's growing dominance

Srinath has also remained a strong supporter of Test cricket and has regularly spoken about the importance of the longest format for young players.

He believes that budding cricketers should focus on Test cricket because it helps them develop their overall skills. According to his view, a player who learns to handle the challenges of a five-day Test match can adapt more easily to shorter formats such as T20 cricket.

At the same time, Srinath does not ignore the importance of T20 cricket. He believes young players can play T20 cricket alongside the longer format, but they should not forget the basics and discipline learned through Test cricket.

Srinath was quoted as saying by PTI: “IPL is important, but you need depth in cricket. I mean, Test cricket is a five-day format, which is why it is called the 'mother of all cricket'. A player who plays Test cricket can also find it easier to play T20 cricket."

"But for someone who only plays T20 cricket, playing Test cricket is not as easy. So, I am saying, stick to Test cricket... the longer version of the game. Alongside that, you can also play T20.”
