In a recent development, Jay Shah has reportedly been reappointed as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the third consecutive term. Earlier reports suggested that Jay Shah might resign from the ACC presidency to run for the election for ICC chairman.

In January 2021, Jay Shah took over as president of the Asian Cricket Council, succeeding Nazmul Hassan of Bangladesh. The presidency of the ACC rotates among full members every two years, and he is currently serving his second consecutive two-year term in this role.

Jay Shah Reappointed As ACC Chairman For Third Consecutive Term

A sports journalist shared on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) that Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been reappointed as the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council for his third consecutive term.

Jay Shah’s tenure has been extended, receiving unanimous approval at the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Bali. Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), proposed the extension of Shah’s nomination, and it was backed by all members of the ACC.

I Am Grateful To The ACC Board For Theri Continued Trust – Jay Shah

Jay Shah expressed gratitude for the continued trust of the ACC Board. Shah emphasized the commitment to the all-round development of cricket, particularly in regions where it is still in its early stages.

“I am grateful to the ACC Board for their continued trust. We must remain committed to ensuring the all-round development of the sport, with a special focus on regions where it is still in its infancy. The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia,” Shah stated after his re-election.

Under Jay Shah’s visionary leadership, the ACC has made significant strides in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region. The ACC successfully hosted the Asia Cup in the T20 format in 2022 and in the ODI format in 2023 during Shah’s tenure.

Shah is currently serving as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). India successfully hosted the ODI World Cup in 2023. However, the home team failed to clinch the title, suffering a heartbreaking loss to Australia in the final clash in Ahmedabad.

Jay Shah Played A Pivotal Role – Sri Lanka Cricket President

Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva acknowledged Jay Shah’s pivotal role in driving substantial progress for the ACC in promoting and developing cricket across Asia.

“Jay has played a pivotal role in steering the ACC towards significant progress in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region. Under Mr. Shah’s guidance, the ACC has been instrumental in unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka,” Shammi Silva said.
