Zaka Ashraf, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, has said that the BCCI is ready to resume bilateral ties with Pakistan. The cricketing ties between the two countries were suspended by the Indian government and the BCCI after the 2008 terrorist attack in Mumbai.

India and Pakistan have not played a Test series against each other since 2007 when Pakistan visited India for a three-match Test series. The last bilateral series between the two countries took place in 2012/13 when India hosted Pakistan for three ODIs and two T20Is. Since then, they have only played against each other in Asia Cup and ICC tournaments.

Zaka Ashraf delivers huge update on India-Pakistan bilateral ties:

Zaka Ashraf was in charge of the PCB when he successfully managed to get the green light from the BCCI as well as the government for the bilateral series in the 2012/13 season. It was the first bilateral series between the two arch-rivals since 2007. And the PCB chief is hopeful that the bilateral ties between the two nations will resume soon.

In a recent interview, Zaka Ashraf revealed that he talked with BCCI secretary Jay Shah. He stated that Shah is also interested in resuming the bilateral cricketing ties between India and Pakistan. Ashraf further said that the cricket boards are hopeful of a positive development after the general elections in India later this year.

“I met Jay Shah and he’s ready to resume Pakistan vs India matches on a regular basis, but he needs his government’s approval. We are hopeful of some good news from India after the elections there this year,” said Zaka Ashraf.

India and Pakistan faced each other three times last year. The first two meetings took place in the Asia Cup. The first game was washed out before India inflicted a humiliating 228 defeat on the Men in Green in the Super Four stage. The third meeting between the two teams took place in the ODI World Cup. India once again came on top as they won the game by 7 wickets.

In 2024, India and Pakistan are set to lock horns against each other on June 9 during the T20 World Cup. They are placed in the same group as Canada, Ireland, and the United States of America.
