Amid all the setbacks in the recent past, Pakistan cricket has finally got something to cheer about. Sahibzada Farhan, the opener who batted brilliantly in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, has claimed the ICC Player of the Month award. The International Cricket Council (ICC) issued the award to honour the best performer in a one-month course.

Sahibzada Farhan got the award based on his standout batting knocks for the national cricket team in ICC's flagship tournament. Pakistan, under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, qualified for the Super 8 phase of the tournament but failed to reach the semi-finals. Their run for the title ended even after defeating Sri Lanka in a do-or-die match in the final match of the Super 8.

Why ICC honoured Sahibzada Farhan?

With his batting, Sahibzada Farhan set a new record in the T20 World Cup. During the camping, the opener scored 383 runs, which is the most amount of runs scored by any individual batter in the history of the tournament. Previously, the record was held by the Indian batting star Virat Kohli, who registered 319 runs during the 2014 tournament.

Sahibzada Farhan thanked his teammates for achieving the award

Though, he thanked his teammates for supporting him throughout the journey at the highest level of Twenty20 cricket. Sahibzada Farhan vows to carry on the same moment in the upcoming games for the Pakistan National Cricket Team.

"It’s an incredible feeling to win this ICC award, especially for performances on the World Cup stage, where fans from all over the world are watching every moment. That makes it even more special," the batter said after receiving the award.

"It was truly a tournament I’ll always cherish, and I’m determined to carry this momentum forward in the series and competitions ahead. I’m deeply grateful to my teammates for their constant support and belief in me - this wouldn’t have been possible without them," he added.

ICC honours India's Arundati Reddy as well

On the other side, India's Arundhati Reddy got the ICC Player of the Month Award for February, 2026 in the Women's cricket category for her fine seam bowling to help India Women's Cricket Team to win their T20I series against Australia by a 2-1 margin. With 22 wickets accompanied by an economy rate of 7.25, Reddy was the highest wicket-taker in the bilateral series.

Reddy mentioned that the series win against Australia was crucial for them as they are preparing for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in the Summer, which will be hosted by England and Wales. The bowler is hoping for a good result in the tournament as the squad is well-balanced.

"This series win has given our team a huge boost of confidence as we build towards the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales this summer. We’ve got a well-balanced squad, and I believe we’ll be a team to watch," Arundhati Reddy mentioned.
