"Jisko jo banana hai...": Rishabh Pant credits Rohit Sharma's warning for blazing century in Chennai Test

India wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has revealed his captain Rohit Sharma's words at the stroke of lunch on Day 3 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh at Chennai. Pant was asked about his aggressive intent in the second session as he raced to his sixth Test hundred.

The wicketkeeper-batter was batting on 82 while his batting partner Shubman Gill was unbeaten on 86 at lunch on Day 3. However, Pant's intent totally changed after lunch as he looked to score runs off every ball.

Rishabh Pant launched a flurry of boundaries against Bangladesh's spinners Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz to reach the three-figure mark before Gill. By the time he got to his century, Shubman Gill could add just one more run to his tally after lunch.

Rishabh Pant reveals Rohit Sharma's comments at lunch on Day 3 of Chennai Test

While speaking to the Jio Cinema after the end of the match, Rishabh Pant was asked about the reason for his aggressive batting in the second session. Pant then revealed his skipper's words who said that the innings would be declared after one hour. Knowing this, Pant tried to play aggressively to reach the 150-run mark.

"When we went into lunch, there was the talk about declaration. Rohit (Sharma) bhai said,'1 ghanta aur khelenge, jisko jo banana hai bana lo' (We will bat for one more hour. So, you can score as many runs as you want). Hence, I made a mindset to score runs quickly so that I can score 150," Pant said.

Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill's partnership

Rishabh Pant's adventurous innings finally came to an end when he was on 109. In an attempt to score quick runs, he offered a return catch to the offspinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Pant scored 109 off 128 balls with 13 fours and 4 sixes.

It was an innings only Pant can play and he showed why he is regarded so highly. It was his first international hundred since his return from the life-threatening car accident. The Chennai Test was also his first Test match since his comeback.

Meanwhile, his partner Shubman Gill was solid and held one end. Gill was patient during his knock and played a perfect knock according to the situation. He took on the offspin of Mehidy Hasan Miraz and smashed him for 4 sixes. He remained unbeaten on 119 off 176 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes.

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant came together when India were 67-3 and had just lost Virat Kohli. However, the youngsters soaked in the pressure and built a partnership of 167 runs for the fourth wicket.
