Baroda wicketkeeper Amit Passi enjoyed a dream debut in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 as he equaled the world record for the highest score by a player on T20 debut. Amit Passi replaced Jitesh Sharma in the Baroda squad and made an immediate impact in India’s premier T20 tournament.
Passi was brought into the team after the star wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma left for India duty in the upcoming five-match T20I series against South Africa.

The youngster grabbed the opportunity with both hands and hit a world record-equaling century on his T20 debut against Services.

The 26-year-old entertained everyone with fearless hitting against Services as he opened the innings for Baroda in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 clash in Hyderabad. He reached his half-century in just 24 balls. After that, he shifted to an even higher gear, finding boundaries with ease.
When Passi reached 98, all eyes were on him, and he completed his maiden T20 hundred in only 44 balls with his ninth six of the SMAT match. With this ton, the right-handed batter became only the third Indian player to score a T20 century on debut.
Amit Passi joins elite club with the highest T20 debut score
Passi finished with a brilliant 114 off 55 balls, hitting 10 fours and nine sixes against Services at an amazing strike rate of over 207 in Hyderabad. With a 114-run knock, the Baroda wicketkeeper-batter became the player to hit the joint-highest-ever score on debut in the T20 format.
Passi now shares the record of the highest score by a player on T20 debut with Bilal Asif of Sialkot Stallions, who also made 114 in 2015. They were followed by Moin Khan of Karachi Dolphins with 112 in 2005, M. Spoors of Canada with 108 in 2022, and S. Bhambri of Chandigarh with 106 in 2019.
PA Reddy of Hyderabad scored 105 in 2010, LA Dunbar of Serbia made 104 in 2019, and Abdullah Shafique of Central Punjab hit 102 in 2020. Ravinderpal Singh of Canada scored 101 in 2019, while Asif Ali of the Faisalabad Wolves hit 100 runs on his T20 debut back in 2011.
Amit Passi’s century powers Baroda to 220 against Services in SMAT 2025
Meanwhile, Baroda put up a strong total of 220 for five in their 20 overs on the back of Passi’s record century. Captain Vishnu Solanki and Bhanu Punia contributed 25 and an unbeaten 28 to the team’s totals against Services in the ongoing SMAT 2025 clash in Hyderabad.
Abhishek was the standout bowler for Services, taking three wickets against Baroda. Chasing the target, Services got a fiery start from their openers Kuwar Pathak and Ravi Chauhan. However, Mahesh Pithiya managed to dismiss Pathak for 51 runs off 29 balls, but Ravi joined hands with Mohit Ahlawat to race towards the total against Baroda.
Ravi is currently unbeaten on 44, and Mohin is batting at 4 against Baroda, as Services still needs 123 runs from over 9 overs to win the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 clash in Hyderabad. Notably, Baroda are already out of the race for the Super League stage, even if they beat Services.
