Cheteshwar Pujara declares Joe Root World No.1 Test batter
In recent times, Joe Root is undoubtedly among the most impressive batters. As a team, England might not have gotten the desired results in their recent few matches, but their newly appointed skipper has been doing well since last year. In the 2025 season, the middle-order batter scored 571 runs in 5 Tests and 10 innings for a batting average of 63.44.
During the 2025-26 season, his batting average was 44.44. Overall, after making his Test debut in 2012, Root has scored 14114 runs in 304 innings with an average of 50.58. So far, the England international has recorded 67 fifties and 41 centuries. According to stats, the 35-year-old is second all-time in Test runs and joint third in Test centuries.
Shubman Gill ranked No.2 Test batter in the world by Cheteshwar Pujara
The recent surge in Shubman Gill's stats in Tests, after taking over Team India's captaincy job, is also visible. With the added responsibility, the top-order batter has been performing brilliantly for more than a year now. The right-hander was the leading run-scorer in Tests last year with 983 runs at an average of over 70, including five centuries, in nine matches.
Because of his extraordinary batting, Cheteshwar Pujara kept him in second place in the blindfold rankings. As the captain of the Indian cricket team, the right-handed batter in the 2025-26 session scored 1092 runs, averaging 78.00 after playing in 10 matches and 16 innings. During the course, Gill secured six 100s and one half-century.
Temba Bavuma placed at No.3 by Cheteshwar Pujara after immense success
For the third spot in the video shared by Cricinfo, the former Team India batter, Cheteshwar Pujara, named the South African captain Temba Bavuma. Despite a very limited number of Tests in the recent past, Bavuma justified his batting skills. Under his leadership, South Africa won the previous edition of the World Test Championship, defeating Australia. Last year,
Temba Bavuma played only 4 Tests and scored 300 runs with an average of 51.66. He led the team to whitewash India 2-0 in an away series, causing a massive upset for the Indian cricket team, as they had to suffer the defeats on their own grounds.
For the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, Pujara named Daryl Mitchell, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tanzid Hasan, respectively. Despite limited game time, Yashasvi Jaiswal made it into the list with a 48.75 batting average in 29 Tests.
