Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series between England and the West Indies due to a right thumb injury.
The right-arm pacer suffered the injury during the IPL 2025 match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals. He sustained the injury while fielding during the match on May 4. The injury looked minor at that time, but further assessments confirmed ligament damage. As a result, he also missed the Rajasthan Royals' last two games in IPL 2025.
Jofra Archer was expected to be fit in time for the ODI series against West Indies, but he has now been ruled out. England have named Luke Wood as Archer's replacement.
"England Men's and Sussex pace bowler Jofra Archer has been ruled out of the Metro Bank ODI series against the West Indies due to a right thumb injury," stated the ECB in a media release.
"He will be reassessed by the England medical team over the next fortnight to determine when he may return to action.
"Lancashire’s Luke Wood has been added to England’s ODI squad for the three-match series, which begins on 29 May at Edgbaston."

The latest injury has also put Archer's participation in the unofficial Test against India A in doubt. The match is scheduled to start on June 6, and Archer is in a race against time to be fit for the clash. In case he recovers and performs well in the red-ball game, he is likely to be a part of England's squad for the five-match Test series against India.
Meanwhile, the ODI series between England and the West Indies is scheduled to get underway on May 29 at Edgbaston. The second match will be played on June 1 in Cardiff, while the last game will take place on June 3 in London.
A forgettable IPL campaign for Jofra Archer:
Before suffering the injury, Jofra Archer had a forgettable campaign for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025. The right-arm pacer looked like a pale shadow of his usual self as he struggled to take wickets consistently and bowl economical overs.
He eventually finished his campaign with 11 wickets from 12 games. Archer's economy rate in IPL 2025 was almost 10.
