English speedster Jofra Archer has been out of international red-ball cricket for four years now. The fast bowler is looking to make a comeback to the longest format of the game and has returned to star in the County Championship 2025.
Archer has recently been spotted playing the Sussex vs Durham match in the ongoing County Championship, and as per claims made by Times Now, he is likely to make a return to England's test 11 for the second test against India.
What led the English Cricket Board to take disciplinary action against Jofra Archer?
The 30-year-old English pacer has returned to test cricket after a brief stint away from the longest format of the game. Injuries have been a major concern in his short career.
As per claims made by Times Now, the paceman is likely to be fined by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for reasons related to the dress code. Test cricket is often known as the most dignified version of the game, as Archer violated the norms as he donned socks of the wrong colour.
Archer was seen wearing the black socks, which do not fit the dress code for red-ball cricket. According to the rules set in the County Championship, the socks of any player must be either white or light grey in colour only. However, Archer was clearly seen wearing a pair of black ones.
Recently, Indian skipper Shubman Gill was seen violating a similar dress code in Test cricket, as he was spotted wearing a pair of black socks during the first Test at Headingley. This breach of the ICC's code of conduct might see Shubman Gill face a formal warning or a fine of 10-20 percent of the match fee, as claimed by Times Now.
Though this penalty could be escaped under a clause that his correct pair of socks was not under a condition to use or the breach was unintentional on the player's part.
Jofra Archer's return to the County Championship
The star English pacer might receive his part of the punishment from the ECB, but that does not overshadow his return to test cricket after an absence of 4 years.
Jofra Archer bowled 18 overs during the County match and conceded 32 runs, picking up a wicket as well. Archer's impact was significant with the bat as well, when he scored 31 runs coming lower down the order.
Jofra Archer's Probable entry to the England Test Squad
After a dominating performance from the Indian batters at Headingley, where four batters across the two innings went on to score 5 hundreds, England might look to call for a change in the bowling deck.
England had announced their squad just for the first test and will now have the chance to make major changes ahead of the Edgbaston test.
Jofra Archer's last test was played against India back in 2021, when England toured India for a test series. The Barbados-born English paceman has played in 13 test matches for England, picking up 42 wickets.
