Former England captain Nasser Hussain has expressed deep concerns over Jofra Archer’s recurring elbow injury. Jofra Archer, the gun England speedster, has added a new layer of bowling depth to their fast bowling stocks; however, the resurfacing of his elbow injury has concerned Nasser Hussain ahead of a busy cricketing season. The 26-year old last played competitive cricket in March.
After a surgery on his right middle finger to remove a piece of glass and a few weeks of recovery, Jofra Archer returned to Sussex’s 2nd XI against Surrey. But Archer could deliver only five overs for Sussex in the County Championship match against Kent in Hove before feeling pain in his right elbow, rendering him unable to bowl in the final two days. England Cricket Board (ECB) later announced that he will miss the upcoming two-Test series against New Zealand.

Nasser Hussain claimed that a recurring injury is a worrying factor for any cricketer, mainly for a bowler of Jofra Archer’s calibre. The cricketer-turned-commentator called the Barbadian as a rare talent as he pointed out it was phenomenal how he dismissed Zak Crawley.
“It’s hugely worrying for any cricketer. You don’t want a recurring nature of an injury, especially a bowler and especially this lad. He is such a rare talent, an absolute gem. Even in the cricket we did see at Sussex last week, the ball he got Crawley out with was phenomenal,”
He can do things other bowlers can’t: Nasser Hussain

Nasser Hussain observed that England would want him to get fit before the T20 World Cup and the Ashes in Australia. The 53-year old believes that Archer is capable of doing things that most bowlers cannot as long as he is in good shape.
“England will be desperate to look after him and get him right for that T20 World Cup and then, obviously, The Ashes. He can do things other bowlers can’t – as long as he is fit. He needs to be fit,” he added.
