Jos Buttler was reportedly left embarrassed after Rajasthan Royals released him even after telling him that he would be retained for IPL 2025.

The England star was playing for the Royals since the 2020 season and was an integral member of the team throughout his stay. In IPL 2022, he had scored more than 850 runs, including four centuries, which helped the Royals qualify for the final for the first time since 2008.

Buttler has been a stalwart for the Rajasthan Royals:

In the following two seasons, he crossed the 350-run mark on each occasion. Not many were expecting the Royals to release the T20 World Cup winner.

However, the inaugural IPL winners sprung a big surprise by deciding against retaining the wicketkeeper-batsman ahead of the mega auction. In the mega auction, the Gujarat Titans signed up Jos Buttler.

Jos Buttler left embarrassed:

The Sports Tak has claimed that Jos Buttler was left embarrassed over his unceremonious exit from the Rajasthan Royals. One of the anchors of the news outlet claimed that just two days before the deadline to submit the list of retained players, the senior Royals officials told Buttler that he would be retained.

Buttler also gave the green signal from his side. However, the franchise eventually decided against it. Not only that, the franchise did not even communicate with Buttler after that, leaving the England star embarrassed.

"The senior officials at Rajasthan Royals, the ones higher up in the hierarchy, spoke to Jos Buttler and told him, 'We want to retain you'. And this conversation took place just two days before the list of retained players was to be announced," said the anchor.

"But on the day of the deadline, Buttler's name was not on the list of retained players. And what was even more embarrassing was that he was told he would be retained, but he wasn't, and there was no communication after that," he added.

Rajasthan Royals are struggling badly in IPL 2025

The Royals are feeling the absence of Buttler as they are languishing in the eighth spot with just two wins from nine games. Buttler, on the other hand, is enjoying another productive campaign with the bat in IPL 2025.

The right-handed batsman has scored 356 runs in 8 games so far, including three half-centuries. Gujarat Titans are currently at the top of the points table, and Buttler would be eager to help the team win the title this season.
