Jos Buttler Ruled Out For The Rest Of The Hundred 2022
Jos Buttler, captain of Manchester Originals, will miss the rest of The Hundred due to a calf injury suffered last Thursday against Southern Brave.
Laurie Evans will now captain the team for the remainder of the season; they play Birmingham Phoenix on Sunday.
Buttler has captained Manchester Originals, who are currently joint-third in the men’s competition, and has scored 203 runs in five innings this season.
On Thursday night, he injured his calf while fielding and chasing the ball to the boundary against the Southern Brave. He played the rest of the game and immediately laughed off the injury, telling Sky Sports, “I’m just getting a bit older.”
We Are Disappointed To Lose Jos Buttler: Simon Katich
“Obviously we are disappointed to lose Jos, not just for his batting but also his leadership”, Simon Katich, Originals’ head coach, said.
Buttler’s availability for England’s seven-match T20I series in Pakistan in September is not in doubt, but he will be closely monitored in the run-up to the T20 World Cup, having previously missed the majority of England’s white-ball summer in 2021 due to a calf injury.
Several other England white-ball players, including Chris Jordan, Jofra Archer, Tymal Mills, Mark Wood, and Chris Woakes, are also out due to injuries, while Richard Gleeson has yet to play for Originals following a series of niggles, most recently a back spasm.
Andre Russell, who has returned home ahead of the CPL, has also left the Originals. They have yet to name a replacement, but Ashton Turner is available.
Their women’s team has signed Australian allrounder Erin Burns as a replacement for Deandra Dottin, who has left for the women’s CPL.
In other news, Birmingham Phoenix have signed Tanveer Sangha to replace Imran Tahir, who will leave for the CPL after their August 28 game, and Welsh Fire have signed Maddy Green to replace Hayley Matthews, who has also left for the CPL.
