Jos Buttler is reportedly set to make his much-awaited return to action in the T20 Blast quarterfinal. The England captain has not played any competitive game since his team's loss in the semifinal of the T20 World Cup against eventual winners India in June.

While Jos Buttler was in line to play in the Hundred, he was sidelined due to a calf injury. He had sustained the injury while preparing for the Hundred. He was due to play for the Manchester Originals in the second edition of the tournament.

Having missed the entire tournament, the wicketkeeper-batsman is looking set to return to action for Lancashire when they take on Sussex in the second quarterfinal of the T20 Blast on September 4. The knockouts of the T20 Blast will get underway on September 3.

Buttler has already returned to training and has been working with England physio Craig de Weymarn. He recently posted a photo of his training session on Instagram with the caption: "Another good session in the bank." In another Instagram post, he wrote: "Picking up injuries as a professional sportsman is always frustrating and I was gutted to miss the Hundred this year."

Jos Buttler set to play for Lancashire:

Jos Buttler has not played for Lancashire this year but could play his first game for them next month. His participation in the quarterfinal clash will be subject to a fitness test. Lancashire coach Dale Benkenstein delivered an update on Buttler, saying that Buttler is keen to play and that the team management will wait till the last moment to take a call on the England star.

"That's looking really positive. We should have everyone fit for the quarter-finals. Jos has been doing a lot of rehab. I've been in contact with him and he's very keen to play. We are happy to leave it down to the last day," Benkenstein told ESPNcricinfo on Sunday.

"He'll do a fitness test on the Monday, just before the game and with the England physios and everyone giving him the green light, then he'll play. We are very keen that if he's fit and ready to go then he'll be playing" he added.

After the T20 Blast, Buttler will be returning to action for England during the upcoming T20I series against Australia. Meanwhile, Lancashire are also likely to have the likes of Saqib Mahmood, Phil Salt, and Liam Livingstone available for the quarterfinal. Both Mahmood and Salt were rested for the Championship game against Surrey this week.
