On Thursday, Paarl Royals, the newest international team of Royals Sports Group, introduced their coaching staff.
The team’s head coach is JP Duminy, a former South African international player famous for his potent middle order batting, astute off-spin, and positive demeanour on the field.
The Paarl Royals will be prepared by this coaching staff for the SA20 league’s maiden season, which is scheduled to start in January 2023 and is formally sanctioned by Cricket South Africa (CSA).
The 38-year-old left-hander, JP Duminy, resigned from cricket the same year he won the Caribbean Premier League title with the partner side of Paarl Royals, the Barbados Royals (then known as the Barbados Tridents).
JP Duminy To Be First Coach Of Paarl Royals
He has now started working as a coach, serving as a batting consultant for the Lions in his own country and a strategic consultant for the South African men’s squad in 2021. Notably, he most recently served as the head coach of the Paarl Rocks domestic T20 team as well as the provincial team Boland, situated in Paarl.

Head coach JP Duminy will be joined by Richard Das Neves, another well-known personality in South Africa’s cricket coaching scene, after adding the brilliant batters Jos Buttler of England, Obed McCoy of the West Indies, David Miller, and Corbin Bosch to their roster.
Das Neves, a former all-round bowler for Gauteng, will oversee strategy and spin bowling for the Paarl Royals. Das Neves will provide his wealth of knowledge from his many coaching positions in local cricket, especially with the Titans, and international coaching experiences with Namibia and Hong Kong to the bowling department’s preparation for the SA20.
The fast bowling coach will be Mandla Mashimbyi, a former pacer for the Titans and Northerns with a successful career. In addition to playing a number of important positions in domestic cricket, the 41-year-old briefly served as the fast bowling coach for the South African national team in 2017.

Mark Charlton, who won the “Division 2 Coach of the Season Award” at Cricket South Africa’s annual awards event last month, will be the Royals’ batting coach.
The Royals’ support staff now includes Lisa Keightley, a former Australian women’s cricket player, as the tactical performance coach. The two-time World Cup winner’s experience in player management, strategy, and tactics will be an asset to the Royals.
Russel Aspeling was also named by the Boland Park-based squad as the team catalyst, a position that was first used by the Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2022 season.
AT Rajamani, who formerly worked with the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL and is presently with the Barbados Royals in the CPL, will hold the post of strength and conditioning coach. Additionally present to share their insights will be members of the Royals’ core analytics crew.
