The BCCI’s senior selection panel, led by Ajit Agarkar, has announced an 18-member Indian Test squad for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. Middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan, who was part of the team during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2025-26 series, is one of the notable omissions.

Sarfaraz put in effort to boost his fitness ahead of the England series. The young batter reportedly lost 10 kilograms by following a disciplined diet focused on boiled vegetables and chicken. Despite his commitment, the selectors have picked Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair for the highly anticipated tour.

Sarfaraz Khan Made His Test Debut Against England in 2024

Sarfaraz debuted in Test cricket against England in 2024. However, he is yet to play a Test match outside India. He has scored 371 runs in six Tests at an average of 37.10. The middle-order batter smashed two half-centuries in his debut Test. India secured a dominant 434-run win in Rajkot last year.

The right-handed batter did not play in the five-Test series against Australia. He last played for India during the third Test match against New Zealand at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

The 27-year-old was recently named to the India A squad for two upcoming first-class matches against the England Lions, along with an intra-squad game against India’s senior team.

India Embark on England Tour Without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli

India aims to secure their first Test series victory in England since 2007. They last achieved this under Rahul Dravid’s leadership. India held a 2-1 lead after four matches in the 2021 series, but England leveled the series by winning the rescheduled Test in 2022 at Edgbaston.

The Men in Blue will face the challenge of touring England with a relatively inexperienced batting lineup, following the retirements of seasoned players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who together played 190 Tests and scored over 13,000 runs.

The five-match Test series is set to begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. After the opening Test, the remaining matches will be played at Edgbaston (July 2-6), Lord’s (July 10-14), Old Trafford (July 23-27), and The Oval (July 31-August 4).
