Kamindu Mendis And Don Bradman

Sri Lanka National Cricket Team batter Kamindu Mendis achieved a massive feat in the history of Test cricket. The left-hander equaled Don Bradman and George Headley and became the joint-third fastest to five Test hundreds from debut as he achieved the feat in 13 innings.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Kamindu Mendis achieved the feat during the ongoing second Test of the two-match series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. The game between the two teams is currently taking place at the Galle International Cricket Stadium in Galle.

Kamindu Mendis has made Test cricket look so easy as he has been scoring runs with incredible consistency for the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The all-rounder, since his debut, has been nothing short of exceptional, as he has been the best batter for the team in the format.

In the ongoing game against New Zealand, Kamindu Mendis has looked the most fluent batter for his team. He came to bat in the last session and batted freely, scoring runs at almost run a ball, and made sure that his team scored over 300 runs on Day 1 of the game.

Kamindu Mendis, who slammed a half-century on the first day, made sure that he went one step ahead on Day 2 and slammed a terrific century. After slamming 50, he became the first cricketer ever to register a half-century in all of his first 8 games in the longest format of the game.

However, on Day 2, he made sure he scripts history yet again. Mendis slammed his 5th Test ton in his 13th innings and became the joint-third fastest to five Test hundreds from debut, equalling the legendary Don Bradman and George Headley in 13 innings. Only Everton Weekes (10), Herbert Sutcliffe (12), and Robert Harvey (12) are ahead of him.

12 – Robert Harvey – 1925

12 – Herbert Sutcliffe – 1931

13 – Don Bradman – 1930

13 – George Headley – 1931

13* – Kamindu Mendis – 2024

Kamindu Mendis becomes the fastest batter in Asia to 5 Test hundreds

Kamindu Mendis also became the fastest batter in Asia to 5 Test hundreds. He surpassed Pakistan’s Fawad Alam, who reached his fifth century in 22 innings. He also became the fastest Sri Lanka batter to the feat, going past Aravinda de Silva, who reached his fifth hundred in his 38th innings.

Kamindu Mendis also surpassed Joe Root (4) for most Test hundreds this year. The Southpaw is also on the verge of becoming the fastest Asian to reach 1000 Test runs. He became only the seventh batter ever to cross the 900-run mark within 13 innings. India’s Vinod Kambli is the quickest Asian to the feat, having reached the mark in 14 innings. He would be hoping to get a big ton and help his team put a gigantic first-innings total on the board.
