Kamindu Mendis won the award for his exceptional performance with the bat in September for the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team. The left-hander was one of the main reasons behind the success of the team in the longest format of the game, helping the Team whitewash the New Zealand National Cricket Team at home.

Kamindu Mendis achieved the fest in just Tests and equaled Don Bradman’s effort of reaching the landmark in 13 innings. The left-hander's best knock came in the first innings of the second Test against New Zealand when he slammed 182* to take his team to a total of over 650.

In the first Test as well, Mendis started with the bat. The left-hander slammed 114 runs and it came at a time when Sri Lanka were left tottering at 88/3.
