Kane Williamson's return means Will Young gets dropped
With the return of Kane Williamson to the playing XI, the talented batsman Will Young has been dropped. Young recently bagged the Player of the Series award in New Zealand's historic 3-0 triumph against India National Cricket Team.
Will Young had scored 244 runs against the Men In Blue in six innings at an average of 48.80 and didn't let the team miss the services of the batting superstar Williamson.
Despite that, he would not be featuring in the playing XI in the first Test against England National Cricket Team, which is set to start on November 28 in Christchurch.
Talking further about Kane Williamson, the former New Zealand captain had missed the series against India due to a groin injury, but has now fully recovered from it and is good to go.
Other than the inclusion of Williamson, New Zealand are set to make a huge change as all-rounder Nathan Smith is set to make his debut and be the fourth pace-bowling option for the side.
Having someone like Kane come back in boosts your side - Tom Latham
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Kiwi skipper Tom Latham said that Young did a great job for them in the India series, but the return of Kane Williamson will give a huge boost to the side.
"He (Young) played fantastically well over in India and did a great job for us, but unfortunately it's nothing on what Youngy has done over the last period of time," Latham said. "Having someone like Kane come back in boosts your side with the calibre of player he is."
Tom Latham added that Young has 'done nothing wrong' to be left out of the team' and the decision to drop him was a tough one. He said:
"He (Young) is a great team man and he has certainly done nothing wrong. It was a tough decision to make, but when you are in those positions you have to make the tough calls and it means your team is in a good spot. Gutted for Youngy, but excited with Kane coming back in."
Latham further talked about Smith and backed him to do a great job in his debut game. He said:
"He's someone that can move the ball both ways in the air, and hit the wicket reasonably hard. He balances our bowling attack quite nicely with the other three guys. And he can bat a little bit - he's a bit of a bowling allrounder, which certainly helps the balance of our side. He's someone that has produced results over a period of time for Wellington - he's been domestic player of the year for a couple of seasons in a row."
