Legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev has shared his thoughts on the ongoing struggles of Rohit Sharma with the bat. The former Indian skipper has pointed out that when the team’s captain and big players like Rohit struggle for form, the entire team suffers.
The legendary Indian all-rounder also emphasized the challenges the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has been facing in trying to settle the team, especially when the squad looks unsettled despite having some strong performances. He also wished luck to Gambhir to make things work.

Notably, Rohit Sharma's recent form in international cricket has been alarming. The seasoned Indian opener’s last 10 innings across all formats have been disappointing, with scores reading 2, 3, 9, 10, 3, 6, 18, 11, 0, and 8. He hasn't even managed to score a half-century since October 2024.

While the Indian skipper’s on-field performances have already been below par, he has also been facing off-field issues that may also be affecting his game. It is being said that there are tensions in the Indian dressing room, and the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 might be his last dance.

However, the fans were hoping that Rohit Sharma would show some glimpse of his form in the ongoing three-match ODI series opener, but he was dismissed for just 2 runs off seven balls against England in Nagpur. Given his persistent struggles, Kapil Dev said Rohit’s poor form is not really a good thing to carry to the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Kapil Dev said on the Cricket Adda YouTube channel, “Rohit Sharma is a big player. I hope he returns to form quickly. I will say good luck to the coach. It takes time to settle in. The whole country is looking forward to the side's performance. In recent times, the side played well for some time. The team looks unsettled. When the captain's form is poor, the team has problems.”

The 1983 World Cup-winning captain also pointed out that the Indian cricket team has not done well in Tests, losing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 to Australia after their humiliating whitewash at the hands of New Zealand at home, so the fans’ anger is totally justified.
Recalling the wild scenes in Mumbai when the Men in Blue returned home after winning the T20 World Cup 2024, Kapil Dev said that there were high expectations from the team, but they failed to deliver, leaving fans and cricket experts angry at the players. He also warned the fans against over-praising the Indian players, as it could backfire when they face tough times.
He signed off by saying, “The team has not done well; it's justified that the fans are angry. When these players came back after winning the T20 World Cup, the crazy scenes I had never seen in my life. So, when they do badly, criticism follows. That's what I say, don't praise the players so much that they can't handle it. And then criticize them below the belt. This is my thought.”
