Rajasthan Royals might land in hot water once again as their former co-owner Raj Kundra has threatened to release documents alleging financial misconduct by a key promoter of the franchise.
In 2009, Raj Kundra and his wife Shilpa Shetty had bought a 11.7% stake in the Rajasthan Royals for approximately US$15.4 million. However, his involvement with the franchise came to an end in an unceremonious fashion in 2015.
He was found guilty of corruption in the infamous 2013 IPL betting scandal. Later, Kundra admitted that he had placed bets on IPL matches through bookies. However, he had denied any involvement in match-fixing. In 2015, a panel of the Supreme Court banned Kundra for life from IPL and cricket-related activities. Following the verdict, he also sold his stakes in the Rajasthan Royals franchise.

Raj Kundra alleges financial misconduct by the Rajasthan Royals promoter:
On Thursday (May 29), Raj Kundra took to X to announce his plans to release evidence revealing serious financial misconduct by a key promoter of the Rajasthan Royals. He stated that the evidence will expose the use of offshore structures and hidden transactions, suggesting that the promoter was involved in shady financial dealings.
"I will soon be releasing documented evidence exposing serious financial misconduct, through offshore structures and hidden transactions involving a key promoter of the Rajasthan Royals. This includes deceit and manipulation in many shareholder dealings!" Raj Kundra wrote on X while also posting a picture with the words 'Karma Bol'.

This is not the first time in recent times that the Rajasthan Royals have garnered the spotlight for the wrong reasons. Earlier during the ongoing IPL 2025 season, Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) convenor Jaideep Bihani had accused the franchise of being involved in foul play following the team's shock loss against Lucknow Super Giants.
Rajasthan Royals reacted strongly to the comments and had complained to the Rajasthan government against Bihani. Meanwhile, the inaugural IPL champions had a disappointing campaign in IPL 2025. They bowed out of the competition at the league stage. The Royals finished at the 9th spot in the points table with just 4 wins from 14 games.
