Indian middle-order batter Karun Nair acknowledged that his historic triple hundred in Test cricket still holds great significance in his cricketing career. However, Karun Nair expressed his desire to achieve another remarkable milestone in his international career.
Karun Nair was the second Indian cricketer to score a triple century in Test cricket after Virender Sehwag. The right-handed batter has not had many opportunities in international cricket, following his triple century for India.
Still Believe I Can Come Back – Karun Nair
In an interview with ESPNCricinfo, Karun Nair humorously mentioned that people often recognise him through his triple hundred, acknowledging that it’s a part of his past. Nair expressed confidence in making a comeback in Test cricket through consistent performances.
“Any new person I meet talks about it, probably that’s how they know me. It’s good to be remembered that way. No one can take that achievement away from me,” Nair told ESPNCricinfo.
“It’s there but I also realise it’s in the past. I’m looking forward now and hopefully, I can get another one. Yep, I still believe I can come back if I keep doing well,” he further added.
Karun Nair made his international debut in 2016 against England in Mohali. He scored 303 runs with 32 fours and four sixes in his third Test match. However, he was dropped for the next Test when Ajinkya Rahane returned from injury. Nair has amassed 374 runs in six Tests in his career so far.
I Didn’t Get The Opportunity With Karnataka – Karun Nair
The 31-year-old revealed the reason behind his decision to move to a different team, citing a lack of opportunities with Karnataka. Nair expressed his intention to score runs in County Cricket before the domestic season.
“I’d decided to move as soon as I didn’t get the opportunity [with Karnataka], but I couldn’t since it was too late in the season. From my side, I knew I had to find a different team if I had to keep playing. I’m grateful to Canara Bank for giving me a chance despite having not played for them earlier.”
“I just wanted to play because you never know when a new door can open. During the tournament, I met Abey Kuruvilla [former India fast bowler], who was the India Under-19 selector around the time I played age-groups.”
“I told him openly that I was looking out for an opportunity and if he could help me. He was extremely nice in facilitating a discussion with Vidarbha, which has worked out well. It sets me up nicely for this domestic season, but before that, I want to contribute and score runs in my remaining games here in England,” he stated.
Karun Nair recently joined the Northamptonshire County Team for the ongoing season. The Karnataka batter signed a contract with the team to play three matches in the tournament.
